The heat of summer is proving to be difficult for kids to play sports outside, so some Kingston students played inside with a summer basketball camp. Kingston Public Schools held the “Basketball Fundamentals Camp” for the Redskins students from July 18 to July 21. The camp was for Kingston students from pre-Kindergarten to the 8th grade.

The goal of the camp is to help students practice and learn basketball. The four day teaching provided attachment goals for the younger children to help them shoot the basketball. Instruction and drills were provided to help the students comprehend the game, as well.

Kingston High School boys basketball head coach Bobby McAdoo and High School girls basketball head coach Chad Rumer ran the event. The coaches had multiple high school students assist them with various duties.

The event was held at the Kingston Multipurpose Activity Center. Pre-K through 2nd grade students participated from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. The 3rd grade through 5th grade athletes practiced from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and the 6th grade through 8th grade players sharpened their skills from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Participants received a camp t-shirt and a Redskin colored basketball. A concession stand was available to participants and parents.
