Kingston begins regionals

The goal for every team during a tournament is to be able to move on to the next step. It took two overtimes to achieve the next step, but the Redskins move on to the regional finals. The final score for the Purcell game on February 25, 2021 was 44 to 38.

To say this game was not pretty would be an insult to ugly things. During the Tuesday night game against Marietta, the Redskins scored 35 points in one quarter. This game, the team managed 34 points during the entire game and the first overtime period. That’s four quarters and an overtime period to score 34.

Luckily for the Redskins, the Dragons were having the same problems. Dakota Wiebener had a three-pointer. Brady Brister had a field goal. Jase Hays was 1 of 2 from the line. The score after one was all tied 6 to 6.

After the first quarter, the spectators might think it could not get any worse. In the second quarter, Jesse Rose, Marshall Ludrick and Hays all had a field goal. The score at the half time 12 to 10 thanks to the defense.

In the third, Hays had two field goals Brister had one field goal and was one of two from the free throw line. After three, the score was tied up again, 19 to 19.

In the fourth, Hays had a three and a two-point goal. He was 0 for 2 from the free throw line. Brister had a bucket and Ludrick was 1 of 2 from the line. Again, a tied score, 27 all.

First overtime period.

Brister had a field goal and was 1 of 3 on free throws. Reid Cason had a field goal and was 1 of 2 from the line. Hays was 1 of 2 from the line. Neither team gained any ground, because the game was tied again at 34 all after the first overtime.

Second overtime period.

Wiebener had a threepointer and was 2 of 4 from the line. Hays had a field goal and was 2 of 2 from the line. Brister was 1 of 2 from the line. Purcell could only manage two field goals and the Redskins won with the largest lead of the night, 44 to 38.

Box score: Hays, 17 points, 4 of 8 from the line. Brister had 11 points, 3 of 7 from the line. Wiebener had eight points, two three-pointers and 2 of 4 from the line. Ludrick with three points, Rose with two points and Cason with four points, 2 of 4 from the line. As a team, from the line, 11 of 27 for 40%.
