Valerie S. (Bevers) Shaw, 75, of Madill, Okla. passed away on August 18, 2023 at Medical City Hospital in Plano, Texas.
Valerie was born on April 11, 1948 in Lubbock, Texas to the late John and Nellie Bevers. She was raised in Lubbock and married Floyd Shaw. Their marriage produced three children: Floyd Jr., John, and Kimberly.
She moved to Madill, Okla. in 1983 to join her aging parents and to help her mother care for her ailing father. Upon moving there, she initially worked at Sun Foods Grocery Store. Valerie later returnedtohereducationatSoutheasternOklahomaState University where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree and, ultimately, her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. Upon graduation, she was employed with Gainesville State School for boys as a counselor and later went to work for Mental Health Services of Oklahoma when she received an accommodation for her work with a troubled teen. Valerie then worked for Brookside Nursing Facility as a social worker and an advocate for patients and their families for fifteen years. Before retiring, she worked at the Dollar General store.
Valerie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Madill where she enjoyed the music and listening to the messages Brother Randy delivered. She loved her Sunday School class with Shannon and all the ladies.
As a cancer survivor, she participated in the American Cancer Relay for Life on multiple occasions. Before health issues no longer allowed her to be, Valerie was an active member of the Madill Art Club. She enjoyed painting with oil paints and working outside in her yard with her koi pond and flower garden.
She and her sisters shared many great times when they went camping and arrowhead hunting on the Blue River and the surrounding areas. Valerie had a soft spot for animals, which she often rescued and rehomed. Her dog Heather kept her company in her last days. Valerie leaves behind many loved ones to mourn her loss and cherish her memory.
Valerie was preceded in death by her parents, John and Nellie Bevers; two sisters, Billie Bradley and Glenys Moore; one brother, Robert Bevers, and one nephew, Benny Bevers.
She is survived by her oldest son Floyd Monroe Shaw, Jr. of Oklahoma City, Okla.; second oldest, John Milton Shaw and wife Stephanie of Cherry Mound, Texas; youngest, Kimberly Beard and husband Tim Beard of Madill, Okla; and her honorary daughter, Martha Woodruff of Denison, Texas; grandchildren, Kaycee Braksiek and husband Ben of Durant, Okla.; John Dylan Shaw and wife Sidney, and great-grandson John Shepherd Shaw of Bells, Texas; Jacob Dawson Shaw and Joshua Drew Shaw, both of Cherry Mound, Texas; brother Ben Bevers and wife Joyce of Reno, Nev., and twelve nieces and nephews spread across the United States.
Valerie has taken a path we must all take someday. She is now reunited with her family and loved ones who have preceded her on this journey. We take heart that Christ has prepared the way and a place for us who believe in HIM.

I go to prepare a place for you, and if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, you may be also.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 24, 2023, at the Watts Funeral Home in Madill, Okla. from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 25, 2023, at the Watts Memorial Chapel in Madill, Okla. It will be officiated by Jonathan Daniels. Interment will be at the Woodberry-Forest Cemetery in Madill, Okla. Services will be under the direction of Watts Funeral Home in Madill, Okla. Condolences may be sent to wattsfuneralhome.com.
