Maurice Hugh Matchen, 81, of Kingston, Okla., passed away Thursday, June 27, 2019. He was born Nov. 17, 1937, in Madill, Okla., to the late Thomas Hugh Matchen and Maurine Susie Turner Matchen. Hugh grew up in Marshall County attending Kingston Schools and graduated in 1955 with the honor of being Oklahoma Master Star Farmer, Southeast district in FFA. Hugh was also a member of the Kingston Alumni association. After graduation Hugh joined the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Slocum, N.Y., assigned to the missile operations. After three years of military duty Hugh returned to Oklahoma and worked for Cablevision T.V. as construction supervisor installing cable tv all over the United States.

He married Charlotte Showalter on April 29, 1969, and moved back to Kingston working for Sooner Propane in Madill until he retired in 1999.

Hugh loved to be around his grandchildren and to work his large vegetable garden. Hugh liked to sit in his big chair and watch college football on tv, but most of all he liked to stay at home and drink a beer or two.

He is survived by his wife: Charlotte Matchen, Kingston, Okla.; children: Hugh Matchen and wife, Tressa, Kingston, Okla.; Hal Showalter, Kington, Okla.; Kylene French and husband, George, Madill, Okla.; grandchildren: Braden Matchen, Megan Lollis, Devin Muncrief, Kyla French, Tanner Showalter, Jessica Dickens, Hunter Fletcher and Zach Cherry. Brother: Thomas E. Matchen; sister: Sue Adams; uncle: George Turner, Sarasota, Fla.; Charles Turner, Palmetto, Fla.; cousin: Doris Matchen, Kingston, Okla.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother: James Matchen.

Service will be Saturday, July 6, 2019, at 10 a.m. at the Watts Funeral Home, Kingston, Okla. Kent Jensen will officiate the service.
