Lurline L. Van Nice

Lurline L. Van Nice, 93, of Kingston, Okla. died on October 22, 2021, in Oklahoma City from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s when she was 79.

Lurline Letta Lue (Abshure) Van Nice was born on April 28, 1928, near Elmore City, Garvin County, Okla. She lived on a farm with her father and mother, Hascue and Carmen (Guthrie) Abshure and her brothers Thomas L. Abshure and Alton RB Abshure near Elmore City. Around 1943, the Hascue Abshure family moved to the area known as Capitol Hill in Oklahoma City where Lurline attended Capitol Hill High School.

She married Edwin Lavern Bouteller in 1946. Of this marriage, she had two sons Gary E Bouteller and Terry D Bouteller.

She was also married to Charles Earle for over 25 years, and they lived in Oklahoma City; Killeen, Texas: Denton, Texas; and Kingston, Okla.

Lurline married Bert Van Nice after the death of her husband Charles Earle. They were married for 22 years. Lurline, Charles, and Bert were active in the Kingston United Methodist Church and sang in the choir. She enjoyed walking and working outside. She was active in the Lake Texoma Fire Department Women’s auxiliary. She liked to volunteer for any activity that included socializing with the community. She really enjoyed the view of Lake Texoma from her and Bert’s home at Washita Point.

Lurline was a bookkeeper and tax preparer for most of her life until the age of 82 when Alzheimer’s began to affect her work. Her husband Bert continued to help with her lifelong tax preparation work after her Alzheimer diagnosis.

Lurline is survived by; her husband Jesse Albert (Bert) Van Nice; sons Gary and wife Glenda Bouteller of Edmond, Okla.; and Terry and wife Sherryle Bouteller of Oklahoma City, Okla.; five grandchildren, Gary Wade Bouteller of Oklahoma City, Okla.; Rachquel (Brown) Rucker of Moore, Okla.; Noel Bouteller of Charleston, SC; Amy and Les Balamut of Burleson, Texas; and Tracy and Scott Wagner of Tulsa, Okla.; six great-grandchildren, Caleb Brown, Colby Brown, Courtney Brown, Conner Balamut, Jackson Wagner and Addilan Wagner. Also, Lurline’s extended family with Bert Van Nice includes four children, Curtis (deceased) and wife Nancy Van Nice, Janie and husband Bobby Nelson, David L Van Nice and wife Carol, Susan and husband Gerald Squires, 10 grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Chapel Hill Funeral Home on Sunday, October 31 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. A service to celebrate Lurline’s life will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 1 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home and interment in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Oklahoma City.
