Lois Jean Wegner, 93 years young, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, peacefully surrendered to a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, Monday, Nov. 4, 2019, in the Family Care Center of Kingston, Okla.

Lois was the eldest daughter of Nelson and Emma Curtis. She was born in Ionia, Mich., on March 8, 1926. Her brothers Nelson “Bud” Curtis and Dean “Butch” Curtis completed the Curtis family. Lois graduated from Fenton High School in Fenton, Mich., where she met Edward Lloyd Wegner. Ed and Lois were married Dec. 20, 1947, in Fenton.

Lois dedicated her life to her husband, family and community and served each one with unmatched class, determination, and love. Lois made welcoming homes in Port Huron, Mich.; Marion, Va.; Lincoln, Neb.; Muskegon, Mich.; Grandview, Mo.; and finally, Kingston, Okla. Lois was an active member of the Lighthouse Methodist Church in Kingston.

Mrs. Wegner enjoyed serving in the hospital auxiliary organizations of every community she in which she lived. Lois was actively involved in the Shrine Auxiliary organizations in both Lincoln, Nebraska and Kansas City, Mo.

She loved meeting with the Red Hat Society and was a member of the Buncombe Creek Ladies Auxiliary. Lois had a wonderful sense of humor, treasured hosting guests, always had a full cookie jar and relished Saturday’s watching college football.

Lois Wegner is survived by her devoted husband of 72 years, Edward Lloyd Wegner, Sr.; their sons: Edward “Eddie” Lloyd Wegner, Jr. and wife, Jan Wegner, of Surprise, Ariz.; and Harold Curtis Wegner and wife, Susanne Wegner, of Kingston, Okla.

She has four grandchildren and their spouses: Amy and Billy Zang, Leslie and Brett Meadows, Edward Scott and Jenifer Wegner, and Melinda and John Wanjala; seven great-grandchildren: Lexi Griffin, Ian Zang, Abby Zang, Chase Meadows, Jake Meadows, Isaac Zang, and Ainsley Zang; brother: Butch Curtis and wife, Bette Curtis; sisterin-law: Eva Curtis; and many, very special and much loved nephews and nieces. Lois is preceded in death by her parents: Nelson and Emma Curtis and brother: Bud Curtis.

Memorial services will be Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019, at 10 a.m. at Lighthouse United Methodist Church of Kingston, Okla., and First United Methodist Church of Fenton, Mich., details pending. Pastor Terry Thomas will officiate the local service.

Interment will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Mich.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in honor of Lois Wegner be sent to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital of Dallas, Texas.

Honorary pall bearers will be Lois’s seven great-grandchildren.
