Muncrief
Kenneth R. Muncrief, 78, a longtime Madill resident died Monday, July 1, 2019. Born in Ardmore, Okla., on Sept. 22, 1940, he was the son of the late Claude Thomas Muncrief and Alice Pearce Muncrief and was one of their 12 children. He graduated from Madill High School in 1958 and attended Murray State College where he earned his Associates Degree.
On June 4, 1960, he married Mary Lou McDonough of Pittsfield, Mass. He was married for more than 59 years to his beloved wife. Kenneth and Mary Lou lived in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, Ohio and New Mexico before returning to Madill, Okla., where he bought land and built the home they would share with their children and extended family for forty years. Kenneth enjoyed working on his land and raising small herds of cattle.
His most enjoyable hobby though was cars. He loved to buy them stripped down to the frame and then creating a classic hot rod. He enjoyed many years of prize-winning car races and classic car shows. This was a passion he passed on to his son Mike. Kenneth also owned several motorcycles through the years and continued to ride as long as he was able.
Kenneth and his wife particularly enjoyed traveling in their RV to the western states and New England with their friends the Smileys and Nunleys. He also loved attending football games and track meets with his longtime friend Blake Smiley.
Well respected throughout the area, he served four years as mayor of Oakland, where his family resided from 1967 to 1979 before moving to the home he built and where he lived until his death.
Kenneth retired in 1997 from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, where he was employed for 27 years. He also worked part time after retiring as needed for Basil Savage. Before he worked for Southwestern Bell Kenneth worked for W.W. Trailers, delivering trailers all over the United States.
Kenneth was a member of Madill Baptist Church, the Jaycees and Madill High School Booster Club. He was a board member of the Huanui Creek Volunteer Fire Department and former board member of Madill Ambulance Service.
Kenneth leaves behind his wife of the home, daughter: Lori and husband, Jerry White, of Madill; son: Mike and wife, Laura Muncrief, also of Madill; grandchildren Ashley and husband JB Stone, of Midland, Texas; Caleb Muncrief, also of Midland, Texas; Baleigh White, of Whitesboro, Texas; Baxter White, of Nashville, Tenn.; and Rhianon Wilson and husband, Josh, of Cashion, Okla.; great-grandchildren: Rylan and Hadley Stone; Knox and Zoey Wilson; sister-in-law: Linda Girotti and her husband, Jim; and brother-in-law: Robert McDonough and his wife, Candis. Another brother-in-law, James McDonough, predeceased him. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Kenneth is also survived by brothers: Edward (Sonny), of Carlsbad, N.M., and Claude Jr. (Tobe), of Durant, Okla., and a sister, Wanda, of Fort Worth, Texas. He was predeceased by brothers: Clifford, Ervin (Gabby), Robert (Dean), and Wendyl, and by sisters Ruth Peoples and Tennie Goodwin Sneed (Sis). Two other siblings died at a young age.
He also leaves behind his favorite dog and faithful companion, Barney.
Visitation was Monday, July 8, 2019, at Watts Funeral Home in Madill, Okla., from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a family hour from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Services were 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at First Baptist Church, Madill, Okla. Randy Kendrix, Mike Muncrief and Caleb Muncrief officiated the service. Music was arranged by Jim Bob Laird and Troy Shelby. Interment followed at Oakland Cemetery, Oakland, Okla.
Casket bearers were: Blake Smiley, Sam Goodwin, Joe Barentine, Barclay Martin, Worley Wallace, Basil Savage, Ryan Gibbs and Ronald Jackson. Honorary bearers were: Former Southwestern Bell Co. Workers, Mackey Ross, Milton Cooper, Rance Stepp, Roy Bridgeman, George Smith, Tim Sweeney, Ronnie Bartee, Jerry Hagler, Alfred Peoples and James Mose.
