Joyce Marie Pittman Abney, 67, of Muenster, Texas passed away January 1. Joyce was born in Norman, Okla. and grew up there, in Oklahoma City, and in Lexington. She enjoyed music, singing in church, playing volleyball, and band. ShewasaconsummatefanofTheBeatles.
After moving to Muenster, Texas and oncehertwooldestchildrenwereinschool, she went back to school herself, becoming a Registered Nurse. She enjoyed a career of more than 35 years working primarily in the Nursery and Labor and Delivery departments of various hospitals in North Texas and Southern Oklahoma.
When here grandkids came along, Joyce became Nana. She doted on all five, and loved hosting “Nana camp” every summer while the grandkids were young. She made a point of supporting the grandkids by traveling to sporting events and theater productions.
She loved to travel, especially to the beach. She got to take many trips, including a London trip that was one of her favorites.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bill Pittman; and her sister, Barbara Pittman.
Sheissurvivedbyhermother,KathrynPittman-Adams; two sons, Mike Abney and spouse Michelle and Matthew Abney; daughter, Candise Kubis and spouse Chris; five grandchildren, Liam and Finn Abney and Alaina, Audrey, and Preston Kubis; her partner in life, Harry Harkins; as well as in-laws, cousins, nephews, and a niece; and her beloved Chihuahua, Cricket. She joins her father, Bill Pittman, and her sister, Barbara Pittman.
We love you, Nana! A visitation is being held at Scott Funeral Home on Thursday, January 5 at 6:00 p.m. A grave-side service for family and close friends, officiated by her cousin Reverend Richard Smith, will be held the following morning at 11:00 a.m. at the Hillside cemetery in Purcell, Okla.
Abney
