Billye Gleaves Herndon, 102, passed away onDecember 28 in Edmond, Okla.

Billye obtained both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Mathematics from Southeastern State University. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Madill.

Billye taught Mathematics in Madill for 25 years. She retired from teaching to havemoretimetospendwithherhusband and her mother. Her mother also lived to be 102.

Billye’s favorite hobby was fishing. She and her husband spent quite a bit of time fishing on the houseboat Rex built.

Billye was a fantastic homemaker. She was very organized and a great cook. Two of her specialties were peanut brittle and divinity, which she enjoyed making for her friends.

Billye was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Rex. Billye often referred to herself as “the last leaf on the tree” since her parents, Lawrence and Eva Gleaves and her only siblings, Chloe Sartin and Leamon Gleaves, all preceded her in death.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Leonard of Edmond; several nieces and nephews; a special niece and her husband, RuAnna and Lance Johnson, provided help and comfort to her in many ways.

Graveside Memorial Service will be Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Woodberry-Forest Cemetery in Madill, Okla. Service will be under the direction of Watts Funeral Home in Madill, Okla. Condolences may be sent to wattsfuneralhome.com.
