Betty Jane Cabaniss

Betty Jane Cabaniss 84, of Durant, Okla. passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at the Calera Manor in Calera, Okla. She was born on August 26, 1937, in Lebanon, Okla. to the late Paul Melvin Orr and Rena Myrtle Massey Orr.

Betty attended Madill Schools and graduated in 1955. She started working at the Little Law Firm in Madill as a bookkeeper and legal secretary in February of 1956, retiring after 52 years of employment.

Betty married Gerald Wayne Cabaniss on April 21, 1962, in Lebanon, Okla. He preceded her in death on October 12, 2010. Wayne and Betty made their home in Madill, Okla. for twelve years, before moving to Denison, Texas where they lived for five years. They moved back to Madill where they lived for five years, before moving back to Denison, where Betty lived until 2015 when she moved into Featherstone Assisted Living in Durant.

Betty and Wayne joined the First Baptist Church in Madill and were on the mission team that began Oakview Baptist Church in Oakland. They later attended Parkside Baptist Church in Denison. Betty was a member of the Madill Daughters Club and Denison Service League which included spending her Friday mornings working at the Bargain Box downtown Denison.

Betty was preceded by her parents, husband, brothers, Melvin Paul, Charles Weldon and Gilbert Clyde; and sister, Mary Margaret.

She is survived by children, Daniel “Danny” Wayne Cabaniss and wife Alyssa of Shawnee, Okla., Charles “Charley” Edwin Cabaniss and wife Angela of Tishomingo, Okla., Sandra “Sandy” June Hammock and husband Jeffery of Durant, Okla.; eight grandchildren, Josh (Adrianne) Hammock, Kalyn (Kyle) Stephens, Jase (Madison) Hammock, Melanie Cabaniss Zachary Wayne Cabaniss, Camden Cabaniss, Erica Cabaniss, Samantha Cabaniss; 10 great grandchildren, Madasyn, Cy and Makynleigh Hammock, Kale, Kanberlin and Khloe Jane Stephens, Ivee, Noah and Eden Hammock, Amelia Wilson; brothers-in-law, George and Glenda Cabaniss, Harold Griffith; sisters-in-law, Cathy Wolf, Nancy Wallace, Paula Mitchell; aunt, Mary Lois Jones; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation was Monday, March 14, 2022, at the Watts Funeral Home in Madill, Okla. from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a family hour from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Funeral service was at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at the Watts Memorial Chapel in Madill, Okla. Danny Cabaniss officiated the service and was assisted by his brother and sister. Interment was at the Fairview Cemetery in Denison, Texas. Services were under the direction of Watts Funeral Home in Madill, Okla. Condolences may be sent to wattsfuneralhome.com.

Casket Bearers were Josh Hammock, Jase hammock, Zac Cabaniss, Camden Cabaniss, and Kyle Stephens. Honorary Bearers were Randy Taylor, Toby Vest, and Gary Mobley.
