Albert Dewayne Wellman 74, of Madill, Okla.passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2022, at the Southbrook Nursing Center in Ardmore, Okla. He was born on October 12, 1948, in Duncan, Okla. to the late Earl Maddison Wellman and Wanda Jean Brady Wellman.
Dewayne attended Ravia Elementary School and graduated from Tishomingo High School in 1966 at the top of his class with highest honors in Math and Chemistry. HealsoattendedMurrayState College and Southwestern Pharmacy School in Weatherford, Okla. where he received his Doctorate in Pharmacy.
Dewayne married Karen Theresa Gossvener on September 5, 1970, in Healdton, Okla. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge from 1976 to 2022 where he held many offices including Worshipful Master. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Madill, serving as deacon, and working on the Finance and Vision Committees and Scholarships. He loved working with Peyton Minter on the Baptism Team. Through the years, Dewayne also served on the Madill School Board, and was Honorary Member of the FFA and 4-H. He loved to mentor anyone interested in pharmacy, flying, or real estate. Dewayne also enjoyed fishing, loved working and was a very generous person.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jennifer Jacobson; sister, Linda Cox; and father and mother-in-law, J. D. and Wilma Gossvener.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Wellman of Madill, Okla.; children, Amy Fields and husband Chris of Madill, Okla.; LeAnne Smithee and husband Ryan of Fort Worth, Texas; son-in-law, Lucas Jacobson of Pauls Valley, Okla.; brothers, Sonny Wellman and wife Alice of Madill, Okla., Jerry Wellman and wife JoAnn of Tishomingo, Okla.; sisters, Jamie Roberts and husband Don of Madill, Okla., Johnny Cox of Ardmore, Okla.; brother-in-law, Dana Gossvener and wife Cheryl of Healdton, Okla.; sister-inlaw, Barbara Dobbs of Healdton, Okla.; and grandchildren, Julianne Fields, Evan Fields, Austin Jackson, Jessica Smithee, Jordan Smithee,Jaydan Smithee, Leighton Jacobson, Isaac Jacobson, and Ruby Kate Jacobson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Scholarship Fund at the First Baptist Church.
Visitation was held Monday, January 2, 2023, at the Watts Funeral Home in Madill, Okla. from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Funeral service was Tuesday, 2:00 p.m., January 3, 2023, at the First Baptist Church in Madill, Okla. Chris Fields, Ryan Smithee and Lucas Jacobson officiated the service. Music was arranged by Zain Gossvener and Brandon Gossvener. Interment was at the Woodberry-Forest Cemetery in Madill, Okla. Services were under the direction of Watts Funeral Home in Madill, Okla.
