The Redskins took on the Dickson Comets on February 10. It took every second, but the Redskins pulled out a close one, 54 to 49, over the Comets. Many mistakes, turnovers and missed chances but Coach McAdoo and his boys kept their composure and held on to win.
In the first, Reid Cason, Sam Walker and Cash Walker did the heavy lifting. Cason had three field goals and was 4 of 4 from the free throw line. Walker (S) had two buckets and Walker (C) hadabucketandafreethrow. The game was all tied at 17 at the end of one.
Cason again got to the line in the second and was 2 of 2. He also had a field goal. Walker (S) was 1 of 2 from the line. Walker (C) had two buckets and was 1 of 2 from the line. Hayden Seeney had a bucket. Eli Oliger was a perfect 4 of 4 from the line. The Redskins were holding on to a five point cushion, 33 to 28 going to the locker room.
The third quarter got off to a good start with a Cason dunkonaputback.Hewasn’t finished as he added two more buckets. Rumer had a bucket and then the Comets mounted a furious comeback. At the end of the third, the Redskins were clinging to a one-point lead, 41 to 40.
The Comets quickly tied the game at 41 all. They went on to lead 42 to 41. Cason was 1 of 2 from the line. Walker (S) had a bucket and was 2 of 2. Seeney, always in the mix in a close game, had a three pointer and was 3 of 4 from the line.
It was tied again at 49 all with 50.9 seconds to play. Parks Ratzlaff picked a good time to hit his first bucket. The Redskins led 50 to 49 with 37.9 to play.
The Comets missed their field goal attempt and Ratzlaff got fouled on the rebound. In the ensuing excitement, as he was checking to see if he had all his teeth, a double technical was called. Play was stopped with .5 seconds to play. He hit both foul shots and the game was over. Redskins won 54 to 49.
Box Score: Cason led the team with 19 points. He hit 7 of 8 from the free throw line. He had a dunk, three blocks and 10 plus rebounds. Next, was a fine game by the Walkers. Cash had 10 points and his brother Sam had nine including four in the fourth quarter. Seeney was next with eight, Ratzlaff andOligereachwithfourand Rumer with two.
