Two Marshall County inmates are facing more serious charges after an escape attempt on September 27. A few detention staff members were checking the vital signs of an inmate when two separate inmates “bum-rushed” the guards.
The two inmates, Kevin Henry and William Hollers entered the corridor hallway and the two guards tried to restrain the inmates. One detention staff member was stabbed in the back of the head by one of the inmates using a make-shift shank.
During the scuffle, Henry and Hollers took a key card from one of the jailers. However, thekeycardwasnotone that allowed outside access, it only worked the doors inside the jail. At this point, there was no danger of the inmates leaving the facility.
Once the fleeing inmates realized their situation, they barricaded themselves in the kitchen. While the inmates were barricaded in the kitchen, the detention staff had help on the way. Moments later, Marshall County Deputies, Madill and Light Horse Police Officers arrived on scene.
Even though the barricaded inmates gained access to a kitchen knife, their crime spree was coming to an end. Henry and Hollers were taken into custody again without any further incident.
The MC Detention Staff acted quickly and followed the protocol for this type of event and the incident was handled swiftly and with minimal injury. The injured Detention Staff members were transported to the Durant hospital where they were treated and released.
During their investigation, it was found that one inmate had removed a piece of wire from a mop to make the homemade shank while the other one used a rubber spork for their shank.
