The Lady Redskins and Coach Chad Rumer could have had “home opener jitters” going into the game on November 30, 2021, with the Lady Wampus Cats of Atoka. However, if anyone had jitters it certainly wasn’t evident.
The Lady Redskins are off to a 1-0 start to the 2021-22 season. The final score was 62 to 41.
The starting lineup may have looked different to the fans. Senior Raegan Davis and junior Kamry Bohannon were the only starters from last year’s team. The new comers to the starting lineup were juniors Olivia Quapaw and Lanie French. They were joined by sophomore Emily Bellentini. This is a quick team and Coach Rumer had their full court, trapping defense in high gear.
In the first quarter, Quapaw quickly introduced herself to the fans with a threepointer. But it was French that set the tempo scoring wise, she hit for two threes and a two-point goal.
Freshman Jacie Herndon came off the bench and hit a three of her own. The steals were coming in bunches. After one quarter, the Lady Redskins were leading, 14 to 9.
The second quarter action had Davis for four points and Herndon had another threepointer. Quapaw added five and Belllettini came alive with seven points. The ladies cruised to the locker room with a 20-point lead at halftime, 34 to 14.
With the lead, Coach Rumer was able to keep fresh players in the game and continued the pressure on the Lady Wampus Cats. They were not able to get into any half court offense. Scoring in the quarter came from Davis with four, Quapaw for two, Jayda Foster had two, and Bellettini had four. The score after three quarters was 46 to 28.
In the fourth quarter, Rumer was now subbing, and each player saw action. Davis had six, French and Foster had field goals, Ethel Stewart had two free throws, and Bohannon had four. The final score: 62 to 41.
Box score: Davis with 14 points, Quapaw had 10, Bellettini for 12, French had 10, Herndon had six, Bohannon had four, Foster for four and Stewart with two.
