An adventurous trip on September 11, 2021, led right to downtown Dallas. To be exact, eight blocks down main street in the heart of the Deep Ellum Arts and Entertainment District. The event was the Deep Ellum Arts festival that featured Marshall County’s own Jessica Stewart.
Stewart has been pursuing her artistic talents since she was able to hold a pencil. Having created many designs in a variety of media may have contributed to her current design that was featured at the festival. It is now silk screen printed on hundreds of T-shirts and stamped as a Deep Ellum favorite. The company Stewart works for sells apparel featuring designs created by their artists.
Stewart said she never expected anything to come out of her design. Now that it has, she will work hard to hopefully produce other designs that make the shirt as well. Stewart was a student at Kingston and still has some of the artwork that she did at school.
Deep Ellum is a strong icon in the art world and has been a platform for many artists since 1873. This fact of longevity is easy to see as one strolls down the streets in Deep Ellum as art is everywhere; paintings on the buildings, ringing in the air from music as well as live performances and spoken poetry and song. There is much art in Deep Ellum from the historic building to the streets and sidewalks.
Many banners and flags can be seen while strolling through the streets all of which bear historic dates and events. The event sign was the major eye catcher on the adventure as it read, “Mask Up-Space Out-Have Fun.”
The event was packed with artists and art connoisseurs, but the main objective of the adventure was to see what one of Marshall County’s own was up to. It was clear that she is well on her way to an adventurous career in art and she can bet that Marshall County will be checking in to see her emerging designs.
