High-speed chase weaves through two counties

A 24-year-old Grayson County man was arrested on April 29, 2021 after a high-speed chase weaved its way through Marshall and Grayson Counties. At approximately 10:30 a.m., Madill Police Officer was dispatched to Walmart for a shoplifting complaint.

He was advised that the suspect was driving a red Chevrolet truck with a yellow motorcycle in the bed and was heading north on Highway 70. As Officer Andrew Adams was heading to Walmart, he passed the suspect on the road.

Adams turned around, activated his emergency lights, and attempted to engage the vehicle. This was when the truck began to speed off at a high rate of speed. He was also travelling in the turning lane to pass other vehicles. The driver, Bryant Petty then tried negotiating the turn onto 377, and almost struck a sign in the middle.

After regaining control of the truck, Petty continued down 377 toward Texas. The pursuit reached speeds of 95 miles per hour on 377 South. Petty was passing vehicles in no passing zones, and on the shoulder. He even ran one vehicle off the road.

The pursuit reached Willis Bridge, where the driver slowed to 70 miles per hour. When Petty tried turning into Juniper Point East, he lost control of the truck, slid into a ditch, and struck a pipe fence.

Petty jumped from the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, but Adams was able to contain him. While instructing Petty to get on the ground, Adams noticed the suspect throw something in the field.

While patting Petty down, Adams found a pair of stolen socks and a stick of deodorant in the suspect’s waistband. Unfortunately, the passenger of the vehicle managed to escape. Captain Chris Smith and Sergeant Dustin Atnip attempted to locate him but was not successful.

After identifying Petty, Adams located the items he threw in the field. It was a pink baggy with a crystal-like substance and a syringe. Petty was taken into custody by Grayson County.
