Reydesel Gomez, better known as Rey, is a freshman at Madill High School. His extremely proud and supportive parents are Javier and Bianey Gomez. He has two siblings in high school as well; his sister Ximena who is a Senior and older brother Javier Gomez Jr. who is a Junior.

Rey is an active student; he is the Vice President of Student Council and also plays football and soccer. Even though Rey is a freshman, he blends in well with the rest of the varsity players height wise. However, he is one of few – if not the only – full time freshman that made the varsity team in both sports.

He said he is thankful for his teammates and feels honored for making the varsity teams at such a young age. He said he knows what an opportunity it is to play alongside upperclassmen but is also aware of the difficulty of playing against upperclassmen on the opposing teams. Despite the initial intimidation of the upperclassmen, Rey said there is a certain amount of pride involved with saying that you made the varsity team.

Rey has played sports for so long, he said he cannot even remember when he began. Sports has always been a big part of his life. He has many fun and unforgettable memories over the years, but he recalled one in particular; playing football when he was little and tackling a player from the sideline along with laughing and having fun with his teammates who he refers to as his family.

“I want to say thank you to the soccer and football teams for making me feel part of the team and for believing in me,” he said.

He humbly shared his appreciation he has for his coaches and the work they have put in on him.

“Thank you for teaching me the love of the sport, for helping me be the best I can be, for having faith in me, and for the opportunity to make my dreams come true,” he said.

Rey credited his early start with playing soccer to his parents.

“To my parents, thank you for always being my biggest supporters and my number one fans. I love you guys!”

After high school, Rey wants to go to college and continue playing sports and has dreams to become a professional athlete.
