A two-year investigation came to a head on March 25, 2021, resulting in multiple arrests across multiple counties. According to the Johnston County Sheriff Office’s Facebook, the investigation began in 2019. The JCSO began gathering information on a suspect in Marshall County who was allegedly transporting and selling large amounts of Methamphetamines in Johnston County.
As the investigation rolled along, the list of suspects increased, showing law officials they were dealing with a drug ring.
Johnston County, along with the assistance from the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, begin digging deeper into the alleged drug acts. Johnston County then found out that not only were they and the OBN looking into the suspects, other agencies were as well. Finding out this information led all the agencies to pool their resources and begin a collaborative effort.
In the early morning of March 25, law officials set the wheels in motion to bring down the drug ring. The Marshall County Sheriff Office, Madill Police Department, Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force, Tishomingo Police Department, Ardmore Police Department, and Durant Police Department joined forces and executed several arrest warrants and search warrants.
Some of the action took place in Marshall County. Madill Police Sergeant Andrew Adams and Officer Gannon Reid, along with Marshall County Deputies Steve Bebe and Jacob Stafford received the green light from the OBN to head over to David Johnson’s residence located on South Eighth Avenue to serve a felony warrant.
Adams was surveying Johnson’s residence when he observed the suspect back out of his driveway and proceed south on the street at a high rate of speed. Adams kicked his car into high gear to catch up to Johnson. However, as he passed the residence, he noticed that the suspect was in such a hurry to leave, he left his front door open.
Johnson then turned onto East Taliaferro while Adams was still catching up to the vehicle. As Adams was closing the gap between his unit and the suspect’s car, he noticed a box and hat in the ditch on the side of East Taliaferro. It stuck out to him as peculiar because the items were dry, but it had been raining all morning. So, Adams deduced that the items were thrown by Johnson.
Adams succeeded in stopping Johnson a short time later and noticed his driver side window was rolled down. This also seemed suspicious. As Adams was detaining Johnson, he advised Bebe to go back to the ditch to see what Johnson had allegedly thrown out the window.
While patting Johnson down, he found over $3200 in the suspect’s wallet and seven clear plastic baggies in the console. Lo and behold, once Bebe retrieved the allegedly discarded items, he noted they were a white substance with two digital scales.
The substance was field tested and showed positive for Methamphetamines. It was also in a baggy similar to the baggies found in Johnson’s car console. Seven bags total with a combined weight of 9.5 ounces were thrown from the vehicle.
