The Madill Baseball team played a double header on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 against the Blanchard Lions. The first inning of the first game started rough for the Wildcats and they were unable to rebound. Steven Sisco got a walk and both Case and Cash Coble struck out. Setting up a hard act to follow in the first inning, the Lions scored ten runs.
The second inning had Brylee Bruster, Houston Stephenson, and Caden McHatton all striking out at the plate. Blanchard continued adding onto the scoreboard, they scored six more runs during the second inning.
Griffin Williams popped a fly ball for an out by the second baseman to start the third inning. Andrew Ray and River Shaw both struck out. The Wildcats did better during the third inning by keeping the Lions from scoring more.
To close out the game, Sisco and Cash Coble both struck out. Case Coble singled on a line drive to right field, then Jackson Roberts struck out. The Wildcats lost 16 to 0.
The second game against the Lions was no better for the Wildcats. Sisco and Cash Coble both struck out to begin the first inning. Case Coble got a ground hit for an out at second base. The Lions responded by scoring nine runs.
Griffin Williams grounded an out to second base to start the second inning. Stephenson struck out, and McHatton hit a fly ball caught at center. The Wildcats, however, held the Lions to no runs.
The third inning started with Andrew Ray striking out. Shaw got a walk, and Roberts struck out. Sisco grounded an out at second base. The Lions scored one run.
To end the game, Cash Coble struck out, Case Coble hit a fly ball caught by the center, and Williams struck out. The Lions scored two runs, making the Wildcats lose the game 12 to 0. Head Coach Frank Thompson said, “Blanchard was just too good for us. They had really strong pitching, played good defense and hit the ball well.”
Thursday, March 25, started the Murray County Shootout. The Wildcats opened play against the Tecumseh Savages. Sisco opened the first inning with a walk. Cash Coble got a hit to second base allowing Sisco to score. Case Coble got tagged out by the third baseman. Williams got a single on a ground ball. Stephenson walked.
Ty Rushing walked allowing Cash Coble to score. McHatton grounded a single allowing Williams to score. The Savages came back to score three runs of their own.
The second inning started with Roberts grounding an out to third base. Shaw struck out. Sisco hit a single on a fly ball to center field. Cash Coble struck out. Then, Tecumseh scored one run.
Case Coble walked to begin the third inning. Williams also walked. Stephenson got tagged out at first. Rushing walked and McHatton is out at second with a double play. Tecumseh got another run.
Thompson said the boys played much better.
“We played well,” Thompson said. “The young men competed well and Cash Coble relieved Houston Stephenson and pitched very well.”
The fourth inning brought more strike outs from the Wildcats and no runs from the Savages. To close the game, Cash Coble struck out and Case Coble walked. Williams and Stephenson both struck out. Madill lost 5 to 3. Thompson said there were a few missed opportunities for scores.
“We had a couple of chances to score some more runs, but just didn’t get it done,” Thompson said. “We hit the ball well.”
Friday, March 26, the Wildcats played the Pauls Valley Panthers. Madill brought their A game this time with Sisco getting a hit to left field in the first inning. Cash Coble got a hit to second base. Case Coble grounded an out to third base. Rushing walked and McHatton gotout with a fly ball, but Cash scored. Bruster grounded an out by the short stop. The Panthers tied the game with one run.
Second inning was more challenging with Stephenson getting tagged out to third base. Roberts struck out and Shaw grounded an out to short stop. Pauls Valley came up empty on runs, as well.
To open the third inning, Sisco grounded an out to third base. Cash Coble doubled on a fly ball. Case Coble grounded out at third. Rushing popped an out to the short stop. Panthers made no runs, either.
The Wildcats put the heat on the Panthers in the fourth inning, with McHatton walking. Bruster walked and Stephenson got on base by error of catcher. Roberts singled a fly ball and McHatton and Bruster both scored.
Shaw struck out. Sisco got out by center field allowing Stephenson to score. Cash Coble got out at center field. The Wildcats kept the heat on the Panthers and did not allow them to score during the fourth inning.
Madill found their footing and kept the momentum going in the fifth inning. Case Coble hit a fly ball for an out. Rushing doubled on a fly ball to left field. McHatton walked and Bruster doubled on a fly ball to left field allowing Rushing and McHatton to score. Stephenson hit a pop fly and got out. Roberts struck out. The Panthers did not get any footing because they struck out back-to-back.
Arturo Gomez struck out to begin the sixth inning. Sisco doubled on ground ball to the left field. Cash and Case Coble both hit pop flies to get tagged out. Pauls Valley again got no runs.
The seventh inning the Wildcats sealed the win with Rushing walking. McHatton singled a ground ball. Bruster reached first base on an error. Stephenson doubled an online drive to center field and Rushing and McHatton both scored. Roberts struck out and Shaw is hit by the pitcher. Sisco singled on a fly ball to left field with Bruster scoring. Cash Coble struck out and Case Coble grounded an out to the short stop. Madill won 9 to 1. Coming down from the
Coming down from the high of winning Friday afternoon, the Wildcats played the Sulphur Bulldogs. Sisco hit a fly ball for an out at center field. Cash Coble was hit by the pitcher. Case Coble got a ground hit to the short stop, but Cash got tagged out at second base. Rushing struck out. Sulphur topped Madill’s score for the first inning by scoring one run.
The second inning Madill got three outs and done. McHatton and Williams both struck out and Stephenson grounded an out to first base. Sulphur also struck out back-to-back.
In the third inning, Bruster hit an out at third base. Shaw walked and Sisco struck out. Cash Coble hit a fly ball but Shaw was able to score. Case Coble hit a fly ball to center field. The Bulldogs got three strikeouts.
Rushing opened the fourth inning by getting hit by the pitcher. McHatton grounded a double play with Rushing out at home plate. Williams struck out. The Bulldogs got no runs.
The wildcats started to lose momentum in the fifth inning. Stephenson singled a line drive to left field. Shaw struck out. Sisco popped an out by the second baseman. Cash Coble hit an out at the short stop. Sulphur got two runs.
The sixth inning started with Case Coble hitting an out to left field. Rushing struck out. McHatton singled a ground ball to second base. Williams struck out. The bulldogs got no runs.
The last inning found Stephenson hitting an out to the pitcher. Bruster walked and Shaw struck out. Sisco grounded an out to the short stop. Madill lost 1 to 3. Thompson said even though they missed a few chances, they played well.
“Against Sulphur, we played well. Stephen Sisco pitched well,” Thompson said. “We competed well. Had a couple of chances to score more runs,” said Thompson.
The Wildcats played the Davis Wolves on Saturday. Sisco opened the first inning with a fly ball to center field. Cash Coble struck out. Case Coble got out at right field but Sisco scores and Rushing struck out. Davis got three consecutive strikeouts.
In the second inning, McHatton walked to start. Stephenson walked and Williams singled a ground ball to second base allowing McHatton and Stephenson to score. Bruster was hit by pitch. Roberts walked. Sisco singled ground ball to left field with Williams and Bruster scoring. Cash Coble struck out and Case Coble walked. Rushing got out at center field. McHatton hit a pop fly for an out. Davis got consecutive strike outs.
The third inning found the Wildcats putting the heat to the Wolves. Stephenson hit a ground ball and Williams walked. Bruster hit a grounder to short stop with Stephenson scoring. Roberts hit a ground ball to second base Sisco singled a ground ball allowing Williams to score. Cash Coble hit a fly ball out in center field. The Wolves got two runs.
The fourth inning sealed the game for Madill. Case Coble singled a grounder to center field. Rushing walked and McHatton singled on a bunt hit to the first baseman. Stephenson singled a ground ball with Case scoring. Williams grounded to the short stop with Rushing scoring. Bruster was hit by the pitcher, subsequently walking in McHatton for a run. Roberts singled on ground ball to center field allowing Stephenson and Williams to score. Sisco struck out. Cash walked and Bruster got tagged out at home plate. Madill won 12 to 2.
“We hit the ball really well and were able to score a lot of runs. We really played good baseball this weekend. We kept our focus and hustle all weekend. We really played hard,” said Thompson. “Really proud of the young men and how well they played this weekend. We really competed well and have made a lot of improvement since the start of the season.”
The Wildcats host the Marietta Indians on April 1.
