The Madill Wildcats Baseball team kicked off the week on Monday, March 8, with a loss while hosting the Byng Pirates. The Pirates took the lead in the first inning with four runs. Madill’s Ty Rushing got out at first base. Then, Cash Coble and Brylee Bruster both struck out.
The second inning saw Byng scoring four more runs. Houston Stephenson got out on a ground hit. Caden McHatton struck out and Griffin Williams hit a ground out.
The Wildcats tried to rally in the third inning by getting back-to-back outs on the Pirates. However, once at the plates, Andrew Ray, River Shaw, and Ty Rushing all struck out.
Byng scored five runs in the fourth inning. Cash Coble doubles on a line drive with his brother Case Coble getting a triple on a pop fly. Cash scored one run for the Wildcats. Jackson Roberts, Houston Stephenson, and Caden McHatton all three struck out.
The Pirates sealed the game with eight runs in the fifth inning. Griffin Williams got a walk. Andrew Ray singled on a fly ball. River Shaw struck out. Ty Rushing walked, advancing Williams to third. Cash and Case Coble both struck out. The Pirates won 21 to 1. Head Coach Frank Thompson said attributed the loss to inexperience and inconsistency.
“We were struggling a little bit with our youth and we need to play a little better, but we’re just being inconsistent.”
Tuesday, March 9, the Wildcats traveled to Byng to play the Pirates and wound up with the same fate as the previous game. The first inning was a struggle for the Wildcats with Ty Rushing striking out. Cash and Case Coble both walk. Brylee Bruster and Houston Stephenson both struck out. The Pirates scored thirteen runs.
The second inning fared no better for Madill. Caden McHatton struck out and Griffin Williams got out at first base. Andrew Ray and River Shaw both got a walk. Ty Rushing struck out and The Pirates scored four runs.
The third inning found Cash Coble getting a walk. Case Coble got out on a fly ball. Jackson Roberts and Houston Stephenson both struck out. The Pirates got one run. The Wildcats cannot get any runs in the fourth inning with Caden McHatton out on a ground ball. Griffin Williams and Andrew Ray both struck out. Byng took the win 18 to 0.
On Thursday, March 11, the Madill/Whitesboro Red River Baseball Bat Bash got under way with the Wildcats playing the Howe Bulldogs. Howe took the lead in the first inning with five runs. Ty Rushing struck out and Case Coble got hit by the Howe pitcher. Cash Coble grounded for a double play out.
The Bulldogs scored three more runs in the second inning. Brylee Bruster grounded an out to the shortstop. Caden McHatton walked. Griffin Williams got hit by the pitcher and Andrew Ray grounded a single. Jackson Roberts struck out. River Shaw hit by the pitcher allowing McHatton to score. Ty Rushing was hit a grand slam to add four more runs. Then, Cash Coble struck out.
The Wildcats got back-to-back outs on the Bulldogs to start the third inning. Case Coble hit a ground ball for an out. Brylee Bruster got out at first base. Caden McHatton hit a ground ball for an out.
The Bulldogs got one run in the fourth inning. Griffin Williams grounded an out. Andrew Ray got a walk. Jackson Roberts struck out. Then, River Shaw hit a fly ball for an out.
Madill got back-to-back outs on Howe to start the fifth inning. Ty Rushing got out at first base. Cash and Case Coble both hit ground balls for two outs. Howe got five more runs in the sixth inning. Then, Brylee Bruster struck out. Caden McHatton got an out with a ground balland Griffin Williams got out at first base. Howe wins 14 to 5.
Friday found the Wildcats playing the Whitesboro Bearcats. Whitesboro scored eight runs to start the game. Ty Rushing struck out and Cash Coble hit a double. Case Coble hit a ground ball allowing Cash to score. Brylee Bruster struck out and Caden McHatton hit an out to second base.
The Bearcats scored two more runs in the second inning. Koby Treadwell grounded an out to short stop. Andrew Ray walked. Jackson Roberts struck out. River Shaw hit by pitcher. Ty Rushing struck out. The third inning started with Whitesboro scoring four runs. Cash and Case Coble both struck out. Brylee Bruster, Caden McHatton, and Koby Treadwell all got hit by the pitcher. Andrew Ray grounded a hit to short stop allowing Bruster to score. Madill lost the game 2 to 14. Thompson said sometimes, it seems as if they have never played before.
“At times we just play like we never played the game before,” said Thompson. “We are just inconsistent and need to get better at being more consistent with what we’re doing.”
Saturday brought the first win for the Wildcats when they played the S&S Consolidated Rams. S&S scored two runs in the first inning. Ty Rushing was hit by the pitcher. Cash Coble got a walk. Case Coble grounded a hit to the short stop allowing Rushing to score. Caden McHatton singled on a line drive allowing Cash to score.
The Wildcats got back-to-back outs on the Rams. Jackson Roberts got a walk and River Shaw got out at first base. Arturo Gomez and Ty Rushing both grounded an out. The third inning is back-to-back three outs for S&S. Cash Coble, Case Coble, and Cade Barker all three ground an out. Madill got back-to-back outs again for the Rams. Caden McHatton, Andrew Ray, and Jackson Roberts all got a walk, allowing McHatton to score. River Shaw got hit by the pitcher. Arturo Gomez walked, allowing Andrew Ray to score. Ty Rushing walked allowing Roberts to score, Cash Coble walked with Shaw scoring, and Case Coble walked and Arturo Gomez scored. Caden McHatton got out with a fly ball but Rushing scored.
Jackson Roberts hit a ground ball and Cash scored. River Shaw got an out with a ground ball with Case scoring. The Wildcats win 10 to 2. Thompson said he is proud of this win.
“We need to continue to play hard with effort and attitude. we’re gonna be OK with time,” Thompson said. “We played the roughest part of our schedule so far so hopefully young men will just keep their heads up and keep going but we have played well at times.”
