Ladies Redskins

The Lady Redskins take on Comanche in a rare Saturday noon start on February 13, 2021. This was to make up the game that was canceled earlier this week due to the inclement weather. The only remaining game on the schedule will be the Madill Wildcats at the KMAC on Tuesday night, weather permitting of course.

The Comanche Lady Indians have been a rival of the Lady Redskins for at least the last four years. Today, the game was not as competitive as they have been in the past. The Lady Redskins took this one, 59 to 43.

In the first quarter, both teams seemed a little tight. Each team was feeling a little pressure due to the past contests. However, this did not apply to Avri Weeks. Comanche had girls in the six foot range, so Weeks pops out beyond the arc and hits a three. Also, she staked her claim to the inside with two field goals. Add 2 for 2 from the line, and it is off to good start. Ryan Herndon had a good start as well. She had a three and a two-point field. Kamry Bohannon added a bucket as well. At the horn, the Lady Redskins lead by one, 16 to 15.

Second quarter action had Weeks on rebounds and long outlet passes to Herndon. She had four buckets. Weeks was good for three baskets and was 2 of 3 from the line. Emi O’Steen knocked down a three-pointer. The constant pressure on the ball was getting to the Lady Indians. Coach Rumer, as of late, has been subbing in Kiara Price ) and Kaya Wiebener and giving Herndon, O’Steen or Davis and Bohannon a chance to sit for a minute and catch their breath. When Weeks needs a rest it is Ethel Stewart who picks her up. This keeps fresh players in the defense. The Lady Redskins now pull out to a nine-point lead, 35 to 26, at the half.

Coach Rumer and the Lady Redskins kept the defensive pressure on and kept the pedal on the gas. The three-pointer was working for Herndon and O’Steen. They each had one. O’Steen added a two-point field goal and Herndon was 2 of 2 from the line. Bohannon had a bucket and was 1 of 2 from the line. Weeks also had a bucket inside. The lead swelled to 17 points. The score after three quarters was 50 to 33.

Recently, the (Comanche) Lady Indians had overcome a 19-point deficit to get past the Plainview Lady Indians. It would not happen today. O’Steen, again had a three-pointer and a two-point goal. Weeks added two inside buckets. Then, Comanche added 10 points to their total but it wasn’t near enough. The Lady Redskins won 59 to 43.

Box score: Weeks had 23 points, next was Herndon with 18 points. O’Steen had a good game and finished with 13. Bohannon finished with five points. As a team from the line, 7 of 10 for 70%.
