The Lady Wildcats hosted the Lady Byng Pirates on Tuesday, February 2. Madill struggled out of the gate to keep the pace with Byng, with Byng getting the first three points on the board. Senior Ximena Gomez scored first for Madill with a rebound under the basket shot. Byng would clap right back with two more points. Junior Braylee Schneider was fouled and scored both her free throws. The Lady Pirates would add a jump shot and a three-pointer back-toback. Junior Jayden Weiberg hit nothing but net with a three-pointer. Byng added six more unanswered points. Senior Mariana Mendez scored a two-point jump shot to close out the first quarter. The Lady Wildcats trailed the Lady Pirates 16 to 9.
Byng started the second quarter on fire adding four points to the board. Junior Abbie Lambertsen hit net with a two-point jump shot. Schneider also got a two-point jump shot. However, the Lady Pirates closed out the first half with six back-to-back points, leading the Lady Wildcats 26 to 13.
Madill tried to rally in the third quarter, but Byng proved too powerful. Schneider scored five points; two two-point jump shots and one free throw. Byng scored a total of 11 points to increase the lead 37 to 18. Head coach Shawn Runyan said not only were they up against a formidable opponent, one of the opposing players were tough.

“Byng is a very good team,” Runyan said. “Their number 24 is a ball player. Her size and athleticism are hard to overcome.”
The Lady Pirates started the fourth quarter adding two more points. Weiberg swished a three pointer. But Byng was too focused, adding six more points. Weiberg got a two-point jump shot. The Lady Pirates turned around to add four more points to their score. Junior Alyssa Cantrell was fouled for one-point free throw. Byng added two more points, winning the game 51 to 24.
The Marietta Indians came to town on Friday, February 5, for senior night. Senior Beth Coleman fired off a three-pointer to put Madill on the board first. The Lady Indians answered right back with a three-pointer, and then followed by two free throws. Coleman hit a two-point jump shot, followed by a Marietta two-point jump shot. Ximena Gomez jumped to swish a three pointer. Marietta added four more points back-to-back. Lambertsen was fouled and made one free throw. Junior Joslyn Stumblinbear had a jump shot for two points, then Weiberg hit net for a threepointer. The Lady Wildcats closed out the first quarter leading 14 to 11.

The Lady Indians added two more points to their score. With 1:26 left in the first half, Lambertsen is fouled and made both her free throws. Senior Cielo Gomez swished a three-pointer. Marietta was fouled and made one free throw. Ximena Gomez made two more points. Marietta made consecutive twopointers. The Lady Wildcats increased their lead at halftime 25 to 18.
The third quarter was intense for the Lady Wildcats as the Lady Indians made two points to start the quarter. Weiberg shot and made two points. Marietta added three more points. Schneider was fouled and made one free throw. Weiberg swished a three-pointer. The Lady Indians put five points on the board. The Lady Wildcats kept pushing while Ximena Gomez swooshed a three pointer. To close the quarter, Marietta added two points, trailing Madill 34 to 30.
The Lady Indians were on fire in the last quarter, putting seven more points to the score board. Ximena shot and made two points. Stumblingbear was fouled and made one free throw. Marietta was fouled and added one point. The tennis match began when Weiberg jumped for two points. Marietta made two points. Stumblingbear good for two more points. The Lady Indians made two more points. Mendez was fouled and made one free throw, then Marietta was fouled and made one free throw. Ximena ran for a two point layup. Marietta got two more points. Then, Stumblingbear was fouled and made one free throw, but it would not be enough for the win. The Lady Wildcats lost 48 to 45.
“We shouldn’t have lost the Marietta game. We had plenty of chances to win in the last 2 minutes,” said Runyan.
Once the girls were done, it was the boys’ turn to show up on the court. The Wildcats kept the lead close in the first quarter of play with Junior Ezekiel Fuentes shooting for two points. Junior Nick Northcutt followed with two points. Marietta got on the board with two points with 4:57 left in the first quarter. Senior Mason Coles shot for two points. Then, senior Miguel Duran made two points. Fuentes added another jump shot, two points. Duran claps back with two points. Marietta closed out the quarter with three back-to-back twopoint shots. Madill led 12 to 8. Head coach Brett Weiberg said it took a minute for the boys to get their footing, but once they did, they were on fire.
“It took us a little bit to get going on the offensive end but once we made a few shots the ice broke.”
Fuentes made a two-point shot, and drew a foul, making one free throw. Marietta shot for two points. Junior Kendall Robertson jump shot for two points. Duran had two backto-back two-pointers. Marietta was fouled and made both free throws. Madill would start to pull away with the lead even more when Sophomore River Shaw added two points to the board. Followed by Junior Javier Gomez with two points. Duran swished a three pointer. The Indians were fouled and made one free throw. The Wildcats led at halftime, 28 to 13.
The Wildcats had no problems keeping the lead to start the second half when Fuentes made consecutive two-point shots. Marietta managed to add two more points. The Wildcats put the heat on the Indians with Duran shooting a two-point jump shot, Robertson swished a three-pointer, Duran got back-to-back two-point shots, and Fuentes made a two-point jump shot. Marietta was able to get two points. Then, Coles added two more points. Marietta shot for two points. Duran closed out the quarter with two more points. The Wildcats led 47 to 19.
The fourth quarter, Madill kept their momentum when Sophomore RJ Morris swished a three-pointer. Coles was fouled and added two free throws. The Indians got a two-point jump shot, but then Morris rebounded for two points. The Indians were able to add two back-to-back two pointers. Shaw was able to clap back with two free throws after being fouled and two two-pointers. Sophomore Yoyo Robles shot and swished a three-pointer, followed by Sophomore Ty Rushing with a three-pointer. Madill won 66 to 27.
Weiberg said all the boys played like one cohesive unit.
“The boys played hard and played together,” he said. “It is always good to win on Senior night and we will miss Miguel, Gael, and Mason. It was nice that so many players contributed. I thought Gael defended at a high level.”
