MPS shares details ofdistance learning

During this time of uncertainty, Madill Schools are working diligently to take care of their students and community members. Faculty members have been busy planning a distance learning model for students. In this model, students may receive enrichment virtually or in a home based packet. Teachers and administrators are encouraging activity based learning. At this point in our community, the school system will be encouragers do to the fact that there is so much stress already being placed on families. The distance learning plan can be accessed on the school website or the school Facebook page. Administrators are encouraging parents to call the site offices if you have any questions.

More than 8,000 meals have been served to students in a grab and go setting in the past two weeks. Volunteers pitched in countless hours to ride bus routes and prepare meals so that families in our district could continue to find normalcy while trying to navigate social distancing and flatten the curve of COVID-19.

The week of April 6 brings change and enrichment to our students. Monday, teachers will begin to communicate with their students via computers and old fashioned phone conversations. Meals and home based packets can be picked up on Monday and Wednesday from10am-12pm in front of the Madill Elementary School. If parents or students need any assistance, we ask them to call the site offices.

As we go forward, we are asking you, your child’s first teacher, to work together with our staff to ensure that your child succeeds. Schools are at their best when the community works together, now is that time. While our staff will be leading the way, we know parents and guardians will be in the trenches with us supporting your children. We all miss our students terribly, but are trying to do things the WILDCAT WAY, making the best of this situation. Thank you for your support and encouragement.

Together we can do great things!

Below are some frequently asked questions that we’ve answered.

Why should my children participate in distance learning?

To stop learning now would likely mean a regression in skills that would have to be retaught next year. By participating, students will continue to learn and grow academically andbebetter prepared to start the next school year.

Will my 8th grade student receive their proficiency so that they can obtain their driving permit?

The Oklahoma State Board of education voted on March 25, 2020 to allow the state to provide a medical exemption to the Department of Transportation for any student that should have participated in the 2020 testing window. At this time it is our understanding that this exemptionwill satisfy the requirements of the law.

Will my child be promoted to the next grade?

For elementary and middle students, promotion will continue to the next grade unless the parent, teacher, and administrator decide together that retention is needed. Even so, promotion would be based on past performance, not because of the school closure.

For high school students, grade classification is determined by credits earned. Any course that has a passing grade at the time of the school closure will result in earned credit. However, grades CAN be improved by one letter grade by participating in class assignments during distance learning.
