SCO Garden Clubs District Fall Board Meeting held in Madill

Madill Rose Garden Club hosted the South Central Oklahoma Garden Clubs District Fall Board Meeting on Thursday, October 10 at the Marshall County Extension Exposition Center. Garden Clubs from Ardmore, Madill, Marlow, Moore, Norman, Oklahoma City, Purcell, and Shawnee were represented at the meeting. Twenty-three ladies from across south central Oklahoma were in attendance.

Oklahoma Garden Clubs were represented by three state officers including Linda Lawson, Oklahoma City, who is National Garden Clubs South Central Region Representative, Carolyn McCabe, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Garden Clubs First Vice President, and Gloria Rogers, Shawnee, Oklahoma State Garden Clubs Historian.

Attendees were treated to a delicious snack table with an assortment of finger foods, juice, water, and coffee which was decorated in a lovely fall theme.

Opening Ceremonies included the Pledge of Allegiance, Conservation Pledge, Gardener’s Pledge, and Oklahoma Salute recited in unison. Josh Cantrell, Marshall County Second District County Commissioner welcomed the ladies to our county.

The Madill Rose Garden Club had three members installed as district officers. Those installed were Willa Dean Caldwell, District President, Bonnie Holdeman, District Secretary, and Judy Parkey, District Historian. An Executive Board Meeting was held following the installation.

LeJeanne Reid, of La-Jeanne’s Plants ‘N Things, presented a program on “Foliage Table Arrangements”. She encouraged attendees to make attractive foliage arrangements from plant clippings in the yard or in the area including woods and grasslands. Thank you, LeJeanne, for sharing your creative ideas with the group.

An Italian luncheon was served to twenty-four ladies. Tables were decorated with fall decorations including small plant arrangements with scarecrows.

A district business session was held in the afternoon session. Door prizes were given to each lady. A silent auction was held to raise money for district and state projects.

An informative and funfilled day was enjoyed by all attendees. Oklahoma State Garden Clubs state meeting with be held in Atoka in May. Marlow invited the ladies to the Spring Meeting.
