Vida Jo (Missie) Johnson, 85, of Madill, Okla., passed away Friday, Aug. 9, 2019, at the Alliance Hospital in Madill, Okla. She was born on Dec. 27, 1933, in Russett, Okla., to the late Thomas James Smith and Florince (Colson) Smith. Missie was raised in Russett and later moved to Ardmore, Okla., where she met her husband David Nelson Johnson.

Missie met David when her best friend, Winnie Mae (Ned) McNeeley, set up a blind date between them by promising her she would get him a date if she could drive his new car. David and Missie were married on March 27, 1949, in Fort Worth, Texas. They made their home and raised their family in Lebanon, Okla., until his death on Jan. 6, 1988. Missie continued to reside in Lebanon, until moving to the Baptist Village in Madill, Okla., in 2018. She loved living there and made many new friends.

Missie was a homemaker and also worked outside the home in various jobs. She worked at the Madill Manufacturing Company, Marietta Cookie Factory, Weber Aircraft, Gainesville, Texas, Marshall Memorial Hospital, and finally landed her dream job at Texoma Casino, Kingston, Okla., as a greeter. She continued that job that she so dearly loved until retirement at the ripe young age of 84. She remained friends with many of her co-workers and patrons.

Missie enjoyed family and friends gathering together, playing cards, dominoes, watching her kids in their youth ride in relay races, and playing bingo. Her favorite pastime was watching old westerns (John Wayne) and girls’ softball on t.v., cooking big dinners where her family could gather and she could say “try this”
