At just 15 years old, Truly Adams is already building the kind of racing résumé that normally takes years to develop. The Riverside, Calif. native progressed from karting competition to Formula 4 machinery and is now working his way through the American open-wheel racing ladder with one goal in mind, reaching the highest level of motorsports, Formula 1.
Adams comes from a family deeply rooted in racing. His father, Troy Adams, is a former NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Tour driver and longtime driving coach, while the Adams family has operatedAdamsMotorsports Park in Riverside since 1959.
The facility is recognized as one of the world's longestrunning karting tracks and has served as an important training ground for Truly since he was a young child. Truly began racing competitively at approximately four years old.
By 2022, his development had taken him onto the international karting scene, where he won the Tillotson T4NationsCupJuniorWorld Championship in Valencia, Spain. He also captured a KA100 Junior victory at the 2023SKUSAProTourSpring Nationals.
Those accomplishments eventually opened the door to Formula 4 competition. In 2025, Adams traveled to France to participate in the prestigious FEED Racing Volant F4 program, a driver-development competition founded by 1997 Formula One World Champion Jacques Villeneuve and racing instructor Patrick Lemarié.
Theprogrambringsyoung drivers from around the world together and evaluates them in identical Formula 4 cars. Truly made history during the 2025 competition by becoming the first American driver in the program's history to reach the finals and finish on the podium.
He placed third in the final competition at Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours, one of France's most famous racing facilities. For a young driver hoping to reach Formula 1, the achievement was significant.
Formula 4 is considered one of the important entry points into professional single-seater racing, where drivers begin learning the demands of aerodynamic cars, standing starts, race strategy andthetechnicalsideofopenwheel competition.
Truly's 2026 season represents anotherimportantstep. He signed with Berg Racing to compete in the Ligier Junior Formula Championship in the No. 47 Ligier JS F4.
The championship serves as part of the Racing America formula-car development ladder, and the Ligier JS F4 is closely associated with the Formula 4 level of competition. While Truly is often described as a Formula 4 driver, there is an important technical distinction. In 2026, he is competing in the Ligier Junior Formula Championship rather than the separate Formula 4 United States Championship.
His car is a Gen. 1 Ligier JS F4 and the series is designed specifically as a stepping stone for young drivers moving from karting into professional single-seater racing. Truly made an immediate impression in his first weekend.
At NOLA Motorsports Park in Louisiana in April, he earned a second-place finish in his first race and followed it with another second-place result. He then finished third in the weekend's final race, giving the rookie three podium finishes in his first three races.
The performance was especially impressive because Truly entered the championship as a rookie in full-time car competition. His approach to racing extends beyond simply driving fast.
Adams spends considerable time in racing simulators learning tracks, braking points and cornering techniques. He also studies the technical characteristics of the cars he drives and works with his team to understand how adjustments affect performance. He has traveled extensively for racing, competing in the United States as well as countries including France, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Mexico.
Truly is also multilingual, speaking English and Spanish and studying French, a useful skill for a driver whose ambitionsextendwellbeyond the United States. His ultimate objective is to become a professional driver and eventually reach Formula 1.
AsofAug.24,2026,Truly's LigierJuniorFormulaChampionship season has already included stops at NOLA Motorsports Park, Road America, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and New Jersey Motorsports Park. The official championship schedule has two rounds remaining.
The next opportunity comes Sept. 17-20 at Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Va. The Ligier Junior Formula Championship will contest Rounds 13 and 14 of its 16-round season at VIR.
The season will then conclude Oct. 16-18 at Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds, Ala., with Rounds 15 and 16. Those races will give Adams two more opportunities to gain valuable experience against drivers who are also working their way toward higher levels of open-wheel racing.
The larger picture is perhaps even more important than the individual finishes. Truly is only 15 and his move from karting into Formula cars has come quickly. His 2025 podium in France demonstrated that he could compete internationally, while his 2026 results have shown that he can carry that ability into full-season car competition.
The next few seasons will determine just how far that talent can take him. For Truly, however, the destination has remained clear. From the karting track owned by his family in Riverside to the Formula 4 circuits of Europe and the United States, he is following a familiar path taken by many aspiring Formula 1 drivers: start young, learn constantly and move up one level at a time. For the young driver known as 'The Truth,' the next turn is already waiting.
