Redskins claim 3A regional baseball crown

It wasn’t easy to get there but the Kingston Redskins baseball team managed to fight its way to a Class 3A regional title last week and into the super regional round.

The Redskins cruised past Heavener (13-1) and then oustedWyandottebywinning twice in a three-game series againstWyandotte.Kingston was 8-5 victors in the first matchup but dropped a 4-3 decision in the second. It was all Redskins in an 11-0 if necessary game finale.

Senior Brock Rumer put on an offensive show for Kingston offense in the Heavener victory, racking up a single, double and home run as he drove in four and scored twice to spur the charge. Ewan Weaver tallied a pair of hits, including a double, and knocked in a pair while Jaksyn Martin also had two tallies.

That was plenty of offense for Slyder Hill, who combined with Mason Clark, to pick up the pitching win by yielding a pair of hits and striking out four.

The Redskins spotted Wyandotte an early 2-0 advantage in the first meeting but responded with six tallies in the second frame to take the lead for good. Martin got the flurry going with a twoout double ahead of an Ethan Mowles single. Three walks, an error and Weaver single later put Kingston in front.

Wyandotte narrowed the lead to 6-5 in the third and Kingston was able to put it away,cashinginBlaneHenry and Conner Waller hits in the fourth.

Hayden Seeney went the distance on the mound, scattering 10 hits and five runs while adding seven strikeouts.

A 5-3 edge in hits was not enough for the Redskins as the Bears evened the series in game two. Hill had two of the hits, including a double. Rumeryieldedonlythreehits on the mound and struck out 11 but was saddled with the pitching loss.

Kingston responded with its season on the line, erupting forninerunsinthesecond inning of the if necessary game to never look back. Waller, Martin, Hill and Henry all had singles while Lander Burkhalter doubled and also capitalized on six free passes.

Hill cruised through five innings on the mound, yielding just two hits with three strikeouts and two walks. The Redskins made the most of eight hits as Waller posted two of those while driving in two.
