Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. (Revelation 3:20) Revelation 3:20 is one of the most beautiful pictures of the risen Christ in the New Testament. The risen Christ stands at the door of the human heart seeking admittance.
Notice that Christ takes the initiative: “Behold I stand at the door and knock.” He knocks and seeks an entrance. He makes the first move. Christ also honors our free will. He does not beat or batter the door down. He knocks, but we must open the door. He says “If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in.” Finally, Christ desires fellowship. In ancient eastern cultures, to dine with anyone was a sign of friendship. “I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” The fellowship is mutual. Christ desires a personal relationship with us.
The song writer said it so well: “He stood at my heart’s door ’mid sunshine and rain, And patiently waited an entrance to gain; What shame that so long He entreated in vain, For He is so precious to me.”
Thought for the week: Salvation is easy. It is just like opening a door.
Prayer for the week: Pray that many in Madill will open the door of their hearts and let Christ in.
