Lady Cats drop Byng, Purcell district outings

The Madill Lady Wildcats found tough sledding in each end of district doubleheaders last week with league title contenders Byng and Purcell.

Coach Jared Hayes’ crew was on the short end of 7-3 and 11-5 defeats to Byng and then fell to District 4A-4 leading Purcell by 18-4 and 18-3 counts. Defensive miscues proved hard to overcome for the Lady Wildcats throughout the two district doubleheaders.

Madill had another district twinbill on tap at Plainview earlier this week before returning home to tangle with Marietta and Ardmore on Thursday for non-league action starting at 4:30 p.m.

Byng jumped out to a 4-0 lead in last week’s first outing before the Lady Wildcats finally found their footing.

Brooklyn Washington tallied two hits for Madill as Jade Soto contributed a double and RBI. Dahlia Marris, Ireland Groeber, Laila Pickens and Tillie Chapa also had hits.

In the nightcap, Byng capitalized on Lady Wildcat errors to plate six runs in the first two stanzas, which offset a tremendous offensive game from Marris as she tallied three hits and scored three times.

Soto and Chloe Miller tossed in two hits each for MadillwithGroebernotching the other hit.

The Lady Wildcats put up a strong early fight against district leading Purcell, plating four runs in the third inning to tie the score in game one.

Miller and Marris opened with singles before a Lady Dragon error. Pickens chipped in a double and Washington also singled in a run during the big offensive uprising.

Purcell countered with a 12-run outburst one frame later to put the contest away. Miller finished with two hits as Marris, Lauren Campbell, Pickens, Washington and Karma Williams contributed one apiece.

The Lady Dragons scored early and often in game two, but Madill answered with seven hits, including two apiece by Groeber and Pickens, who drove in two runs. One of Groeber’s hits went for a double.
