MC schools offering school supplies

In an effort to support students and families, local Marshall County Schools announced they will be providing school supplies for students. The initiative aims to create a more equitable learning environment by removing financial barriers to education.

Madill Public Schools announced that the Johnson O’Malley (JOM) program will once again provide free school supplies to all eligible students for the upcoming school year. The program, which serves students from Pre-K to 12th grade, is funded by the Chickasaw Nation. MPS Special Education Director and Indian Education Coordinator Brandy Bruff said that there is a parent committee that meets quarterly to set a budget, plan activities and decides what the program will provide for the students.

“This year, we are able to provide all supplies on the school list with the exception of ziploc baggies, any type of wipes, and cups.”

Bruff also stated that any new students to the district this year who are tribal members, will be asked to complete a form and provide a copy of their tribal membership card at enrollment.

By providing free school supplies, the JOM program aims to alleviate financial burdens on families and ensure that all eligible students have the tools they need to succeed in the classroom.

The district’s parent committee plays a vital role in determining how funds are allocated to best support student needs. The initiative is part of the district’s ongoing commitment to creating an equitable learning environment for all students.

Also in Marshall County, Kingston Public Schools announced that it will also provide free school supplies to all students for the upcoming school year. This is the second year in a row that the school district in Kingston has provided supplies for all students.

“We know how expensive things are today with our economy being in the shape it is and wanted to offer this to our community to help ease the burden a bit,” said Kingston Public Schools Superintendent Brian Brister. “The impact on the learning experience will be that all students have the supplies they need to start the school year and not just the ones that can fully afford it.”

Students will receive essential supplies such as pencils, notebooks, binders and other classroom materials at the beginning of the school year. The district estimates the cost of this program to be approximately $40,000.

By providing free school supplies,KPSjoinsagrowing number of districts nationwide committed to ensuring students’ success.

The district will distribute the items directly to students at the beginning of the school year. The supplies will include all essential supplies.

KPS joins a growing number of school districts across the nation that are implementing similar programs. By providing free school supplies, these districts hope to reduce stress for families and allow students to focus on their education.
