*Editor's note, the information in this article is as of February 21, 2026* Three neighboring states are grappling with the aftermath of a wildfire that sparked Feb. 17, 2026, in Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas. The blaze has taken more than 300,000 acres, destroyed homes and businesses and claimed lives.
In Oklahoma, the Ranger Road Fire has burned over 283,000 acres and is 30% contained. The Stevens Fire has burned 12,894 acres and is 75% contained. The Side Road Fire has burned 3,680 acres and is 85% contained.
In Texas, the Lavender Fire has burned 18,423 acres and is 60% contained. The Eight Ball Fire has burned 13,563.8 acres and is 80% contained.
Tragically, the Canadian Bridge Fire in Hutchinson County, Texas killed two residents and an estimated 10,000 head of cattle. Four firefighters were injured in Oklahoma, with three from Rosston Fire suffering injuries when their truck overturned.
The wildfires have forced evacuations in Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas, with over 700 residents in Tyrone, Oklahoma evaacuated to Kansas.OklahomaGovernor Kevin Stitt declared a state of emergency in Beaver, Texas, and Woodward counties.
The rebuilding effort will require significant involvement from communities, the state and possibly federal support. Oklahomans are encouraged to come together to support those affected and help restore their livelihoods. Oklahoma itself has faced various struggles this year already, but it's important that Oklahomans remain hardworking people just like they've always been.
