A local man, identified as Shane Thompson, had the privilege of being arrested twice in one day. On June 11 at approximately 8:15 a.m., Kingston Assistant Police Chief Chris Watson and Kingston Police Chief John Bridgeman were dispatched to a residence on Little Street. Watson was on the scene first, and Bridgeman arrived mere seconds after.

Both officers noticed a female victim crouched down outside by the chain link fence. Bridgeman questioned where the other half of the party was and was informed that he was inside the house. The victim also identified the suspect as Thompson, a 36-year-old male from Kingston.

In Bridgeman’s police report, he noted that he had to knock and announce himself two separate times before the suspect answered the door. When the suspect finally opened the door, he only opened it approximately two inches wide. This made it difficult for Bridgeman to see the suspect, which could spell danger for the officers and victim.

Bridgeman pushed the door open a little, and apparently, that action agitated Thompson, because he pulled the door open and told Bridgeman not to push the door. Bridgeman then informed the suspect that he was there due to a disturbance call and the police chief had the legal right to be there and speak to him.

That comment seemed to confuse Thompson, because he asked Bridgeman what was going on. Bridgeman informed him that they were called due to a disturbance, and he was investigating.

According to the report, Thompson claimed nothing happened, that he and his “common-law wife” had an argument; nothing more. Bridgeman then asked for identification from Thompson, and was told by the suspect that he did not have to produce his identification.

Bridgeman informed the suspect that he was investigating a disturbance call, and yes, the suspect must produce his identification. Once Bridgeman received Thompson’s identification, he did what all officers due in a routine investigation; called the suspect’s information into dispatch to check for any warrants.

Lo and behold, Thompson’s name came back with a warrant out of Stephens County. Thompson complained of back and abdominal pains, so Bridgeman did not put cuffs on the suspect; Thompson had calmed down by this point. Bridgeman, Watson and Thompson arrived to the Marshall County Jail, and EMS was called to check Thompson out.

Once EMS arrived, Watson went back into service, thinking they were done with Thompson. Stephens County decided they did not want to extradite Thompson, so he was released. After that, Bridgeman went back into service, as well.

Not five hours later, Bridgeman and Watson were both dispatched to the same residence for a disturbance call.

When both officers arrived on scene, they noticed the same victim from the earlier call exiting the house while holding a small child.

When the officers inquired what happened, this time, the victim did not hold back any information.

The victim noted that Thompson is abusive, while pulling loose hair from her head. Thompson’s 17-year-old daughter also told Bridgeman that her father “grabbed her arm and twisted it” behind her back. She said she thought he was going to break it. The daughter stated Thompson became extremely agitated and abusive when he returned home from his trip to the jail.

Thompson’s daughter informed Bridgeman that her father drug his “wife” into the residence by her hair, explaining why the first victim was pulling loose hairs when the officers arrived.

Bridgeman and Watson entered the house, and Thompson calmly asked the officers, “what’s up boss?”

The officers inquired as to what was occurring and Thompson said, “nothing, why?”

After Watson repeated his question, Thompson said that he and his “wife” started arguing and “hollering.”

Watson asked if Thompson had struck the victim and he denied it.

The victim countered Thompson’s comment by informing Bridgeman that Thompson allegedly put his hands on her.

Thompson was arrested again, this time, in double locking handcuffs and escorted to the jail.

Thompson was booked into the jail on charges for Domestic Abuse/Assault and Battery on a Pregnant Woman, and Domestic Abuse/Assault and Battery in the Presence of a Minor.
