Voters return to the polls this week to cast their ballots in Oklahoma’s June Primary.

Headlining the ballot in Marshall County is the race for County Sheriff. The race will be decided in the Republican Primary as incumbent sheriff Danny Cryer will face challenger Donald Yow.

No Democrats or Independents filed for the election.

Cryer is in the midst of his first term and was elected to the position in November 2016. That year, he beat Democratic candidate Johnny Miller for the role.

Yow has served as police chief for the City of Madill for two years and was assistant chief for 14 years before that.

All voters regardless of party affiliation will vote on State Question 802. If passed, the measure would add a provision to the Oklahoma Constitution requiring the state to expand Medicaid coverage.

Republicans will also vote on three other elected positions: Corporation Commissioner, United States Senator and United States Representative for District 2.

The Corporation Commissioner primary features incumbent Todd Hiett against Harold Spradling. Hiett was first elected to the Corporation Commission, which regulates public utilities in Oklahoma, in 2014. Commissioners serve a six-year term.

The winner will face Libertarian Todd Hagopian in the November 3 general election.

Oklahoma’s senior US senator Jim Inhofe will face three challengers to be his party’s nominee for the general election.

Inhofe was elected to the seat in a 1994 special election. His challengers are JJ Stitt, Neil Mavis and John Tompkins; none of whom have held elected office.

Lastly, Republicans will decide between incumbent Congressman Markwayne Mullin or one of his challengers, Rhonda Hopkins or Joseph Silk as their nominee. Silk is currently the state senator for District 5.

Meanwhile, area Democrats have only one election position to decide. Oklahoma Democrats have four choices to be their nominee for the US Senate race: Elysabeth Britt, Abby Broyles, Sheila Bilyeu and R.O. Joe Cassity, Jr.

Based on fundraising numbers, Inhofe and Broyles are favorites for their repective parties’ nominations.

Inhofe has $2,746,233.72 towards his re-election from January 2019 to June 10, 2020. Meanwhile, Broyles raised $535,233.10 from October 2019 to June 10, 2020.
