Ryan Self, an Oklahoma City man is facing charges in Marshall County after a string of rash decisions. Officer Dustin Atnip was traveling south on Highway 70 near Highway 106 on July 7 at approximately 3?45 p.m. According to his police report, he observed a vehicle traveling in his direction in his lane, overtaking another vehicle.

Atnip estimated the vehicle to be traveling at speeds exceeding the 65 miles per hour speed limit, so he activated his radar. The radar read that the vehicle was traveling at 92 miles per hour, way over the posted speed limit.

To make matters even more dangerous, the vehicle was a dually pickup towing a trailer. As the truck approached Atnip, it returned to the original lane of travel, and caused a white sedan to swerve onto the shoulder to avoid a collision.

Atnip pulled in behind both vehicles and began to follow them. After a few moments, the white sedan overtook the dually pickup in a no passing zone on a hill.

The officer then activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop. Both vehicles slowed down and continued north. The pickup turned into the southern entrance of the ASAP General Store parking lot while the white sedan turned into the northern entrance.

The pickup stopped and placed his vehicle in park. However, the white sedan merely hesitated for a few moments before it cut through the Dollar Tree parking lot and sped onto East Smiley Road heading east.

Atnip observed the sedan turning north into one of the entrances of the Oklahoma Steel and Wire. Since Atnip was a good ways away from the vehicle, he couldn’t tell which drive the sedan pulled into.

Atnip turned into the Oklahoma Steel and Wire parking lot, but didn’t initially find the white sedan in question. As luck would have it, an employee approached the officer asking if he was looking for a white car.

The officer informed the employee that he was in fact looking for a white car, the employee said he observed a white car enter the parking lot and was “hauling @##.” Atnip then found out how to access the area that the white sedan had entered.

Atnip observed the sedan driving behind a stack of wire panels then disappearing. The officer could see both sides of the stacks, so he opted to remain in place and let the suspect show himself. The officer’s plan worked, because a few moments later, the sedan appeared on the south side of the panels.

The officer approached the sedan, and was able to initiate a successful traffic stop. Atnip detained Self and informed the suspect he was being arrested for Eluding an

Officer and Reckless Driving.

While waiting for the tow truck to arrive, Atnip began to search the vehicle. He found a container of THC gummies, but did not find a Medical Marijuana patient card for Self. This discovery led to the addition of Possession of CDS. An online search found traffic violations for priors.
