Powell Cemetery held its Homecoming on July 3, 2022. The event hosted over 50 individuals and received donations of more than 4,000 dollars. The amount will increase because there are still donations being received.

The Powell Cemetery Homecoming is a fundraising event for the upkeep of the Powell Cemetery. It’s a potluck lunch where everyone brings main courses, side dishes, desserts, and drinks. The event has been held for over 50 years and should last many more years.

Marvell Jackson, a Madill resident, said he enjoyed going to the homecoming.

“I was glad to go and see all of my old friends and see everyone that was there.”

Jackson is a familiar face at the homecoming because she has been to it consecutively over the last 30 years. She said she doesn’t see that changing anytime soon.

“I’m planning on coming out in the future as long as my health holds up.”

Jackson shared that her sister Jackie is 95 years old and still comes out to meet with friends and support the homecoming.
