Mike Idleman is one of the five candidates running for one of the open seats on the Town of Oakland Board of Trustees. Idleman, a lifelong resident of Oakland, said he is dedicated to the progress and well-being of his community.
At 51 years old, he has spent the last 25 years serving in the Madill Fire Department, with the last five years as the Madill Fire Chief. In addition to his leadership in public safety, Idleman also serves as the Assistant Emergency Manager for the City of Madill. His dedication to civic engagement extends beyond his professional responsibilities; he is an active member of the Madill Rotary Club, where he has been involved for the past three years.
Idleman has deep roots in the community. Though he briefly lived in Madill, he returned to Oakland a decade ago and now resides on land adjacent to where he was raised. His three sons grew up in Madill, and he said he takes pride in spending time with his grandchildren.
He noted that he also enjoys attending University of Oklahoma football games with his family, visiting his parents, who have lived in Oakland for over 50 years, and hunting. He said one of his most cherished experiences is participating as a guide in the Oklahoma Lieutenant Governor's Annual Turkey Hunt, a role he has held for the past 12 years.
Idleman is committed to strengthening Oakland’s town council and fostering collaboration between local leadership and the community. He said his primary objective is to revitalize the town by working with the board of trustees and residents to restore and enhance essential aspects of the community.
He emphasized the importance of listening to the concerns of citizens and ensuring their voices are heard in decision-making processes. Recognizing the need for infrastructure enhancements, Idleman said he prioritizes securing grants to upgrade Oakland’s water and sewer systems.
He also said he plans to collaborate with county officials to address the condition of local roads and streets. Additionally, he is committed to tackling the town’s growing stray animal population, aiming to implement initiatives that will help clean up and beautify Oakland.
Idleman said he understands that a strong community relies on open communication and transparency. He is dedicated to working alongside the four other board members to maintain honesty and clarity in governance.
By fostering an open dialogue with residents, he seeks to build trustandensurethatthecommunityremainsinformedandengaged in local decision-making.
