MIA workers and flooding issues

It was a light load for the Oakland Town Council when they conducted their monthly meeting on January 14. There were not too many items on the agenda for the council’s discussion and approval. Even though it was mainly housekeeping items like purchase orders and the prior month’s minutes, things picked up a tad when they opened the floor for new business.

One council member asked if the contract worker Eugene Arterberry, who is supposed to clean around the dumpsters, was still working. None of the council members could positively answer that questions. It seems Arterberry has not been seen in quite some time. Some residents are complaining about the trash around the dumpsters. Mayor John Moss suggested putting Arterberry’s contract renewal on the agenda for the February meeting, and to hold his paychecks till they can speak to the contract worker.

Another issue in the new business was a resident who lives on the north side of town by the lagoons. She, and a few other neighbors, are experiencing flooding issues. It seems the ditches are flooding, which causes the septic to back up in the house. In other words, the residents are having two types of water coming into their houses. The council is going to look into possible solutions.
