A man was arrested on December 29 after leading officers on a high speed chase through two counties. At approximately 2:20 p.m., the Johnston County Sheriff's Office received a call about an attempted burglary in process in Mannsville.
Whenthedeputiesarrived on scene, the suspect, later identified as Christopher Morris, ran from the scene. After getting a description of Morris, deputies located a vehicle matching the description and attempted a traffic stop on Hwy 199.
Morris wouldn't pull over, and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit went from JohnstonCountyandcrossed into Marshall County.
JCSOalertedtheMarshall County Sheriff's Office. MCSO and Madill Police Officers joined the chase.
Thepursuittraveledsouth into Madill and that was whenMCSOandMPDjoined the pursuit.
The pursuit wound up traveling west on US 70 and Cedar Hill Road. That was when MCSO deployed spike strips.
Even though Morris was successful in avoiding the spike strips, he pulled over a short time later.
Officer's reports stated that when Morris exited the vehicle, he was yelling for the deputies to 'kill him.'
Officers instructed Morris to get on the ground, but he refused. Officers then deployed a JPX, a non-lethal device, and Morris was taken into custody without any further incident.
Morris was booked into the Johnston County Jail for Attempted Burglary, Eluding, Threatening Acts of Violence, Malicious Injury toPropertyandTransporting an Open Container.
Johnston County Sheriff Gary Dodd commended the communication between JCSO and MCSO and the officers who handled the situation.
