Madill STEM students get a tour of the Denison Dam

The Madill Middle School Technology Student Association (TSA) /STEM officers attended the Lake Texoma 75th anniversary ceremony on April 9, 2021 held at the Corps. of Engineers Denison Dam. The students had the privilege of touring the Denison Dam before the ceremony.

They learned about the operation, different Engineers, and other employees that it takes to operate the power house to produce electricity from hydropower for the north Texas area. The power house is in the process of replacing one of the generators that produce electricity.

Students were able to go underneath the Dam to see all of the tubes, generators, and were taught how the water actually comes into the power house and produces electricity. During the ceremony, they learned how and when the Denison Dam was constructed, who were involved, and how it benefits the Red River Valley and the Texoma area by environmental, recreational, and flood control from different speakers and congressmen.

This educational trip reinforced the objectives/careers the students at Madill Middle School learn each day in the STEM program. This introduced the students to different aspects of becoming an Engineer or Lake Ranger.
