ArturoandTammieMartinez of 500 Taliferro are July’s recipients of Madill Rose Garden Club’s Yard of the Month.
The Martinezes have lived at this residence on the corner of Taliferro and 5th Avenue for three years. Thelandscapingisthepride and joy of Arturo’s as he rehabilitates his health after a serious illness.
The focal point of the yard is the giant sunflowers dotting the landscape. He said he bought the seeds at Walmart and the just “grew and grew.” Other plants include mulleins, celosias, zinnias, chrysanthemum, roses and petunias. The yard is maintained as pristine as a golf course.
The couple were not at home when the member of the club knocked on their door to give them their sign. A yellow sticky note was put on the front and back door informing them of the award and asking them to call. Unbeknownst to the club member the couple were in Colorado on vacation. Tammie’s sister, checking on their dog, saw the note, took a picture of it and texted it to them.
Tammie said, “We were so excited you would have thought we’d won the lottery!!!!”
