On October 10, the Madill Wildcats held the inaugural Passing of the Spirit Ceremony. The ceremony took place at the football field during the homecoming pep rally.
The already-special homecoming event was made even more special for the children and young adults by adding the Passing of the Spirit Ceremony. The ceremony is a way for seniors to welcome the incoming Wildcats.
Seniors gathered at one end of the field and the kindergarten class on the other. They then came together meeting at the 50-yard line.
Seniors passed Wildcat memorabilia such as necklaces, pins that said “Once a Wildcat Always a Wildcat”, and special quoted cards to the kindergarten children who will someday do the same for the future generations to come. The ceremony was heartfelt, tugging on the heartstrings of everyone in attendance.
For the Meza, family this event was even more special. Melissa and Jose Meza have three children; two sons and a daughter. The eldest son Fabricio Meza is a senior and had the special honor to Pass the Spirit to his youngest brother, Gabriel who is a kindergartner. The boys’ sister, 14-year-old Briana, along with family and friends was honored to see brothers share in this extra special event together.
These three siblings enjoy outdoor activities together playing soccer and basketball. They love family vacations to Six Flags and enjoy their quality time. Senior Fabricio works part time at Wal-Mart but said he has future plans for a career in technology such as Engineering, Aviation or Drones. Gabriel said he has dreams to follow in big brother’s footsteps or peruse a career in defending the law as an attorney.
The event was special for all and even more so for this family.
