At approximately 5:12 a.m., on August 27, the Madill Fire Department was dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of Tishomingo Street.

Lieutenant Dale Graves of the Madill Fire Department said firefighters arrived on scene to an empty residence on fire. The fire seemed to have started in the bathroom wall. Firefighters began putting out the fire.

Originally, they had thought the fire had been extinguished, but heard the familiar hissing of a gas line. They halted the salvaging of the scene, located the gas line and turned it off.

The Oklahoma State Fire Marshall was called on scene to decipher what caused the fire. It seems lightning struck a tree in the northwest corner of the property. Then, said lightning traveled through the ground and ignited the gas line under the house.

Graves said the house was empty, so no one was hurt. However, the owner of the house uses it to store his catering equipment.
