The Town of Kingston now has a mural for residents and guests to enjoy. Local artist Kasey Davis was the creative genius behind the mural. She said that when the Kingston Place Making Committee approached her to create something, she was ecstatic and shocked.

“I’ve been wanting to see murals go up in Marshall County for quite some time,” she said. “I have tried on many occasions, but never had them come to fruition. I was so stoked to finally get the opportunity to not only be a part of it, but create it and paint it myself.”

Davis knew they wanted a beach theme, so she “rolled with that theme”, went home and began sketching and brainstorming. She said she thought about certain local iconic places and vibes that Kingston had to offer. She thendidadigitalmockupand presentedittothecommittee, and they approved the idea.

Davis said it was a challenge and took 73 hours to complete due to the weather impeding her process a few times.Shesaideventhoughit was challenging, she enjoyed every bit of the process.

“I enjoyed the process, honestly, of just showing up, brush in hand, willing to be a creative vessel.”

Davis said one of the best things about the project was watching the mural come to life and witnessing first-hand the community’s excitement and appreciation. She said art is important, not only for the artist, but also for the community.

“That’s what art does to people and why it’s so important,” she said. “You could feel and hear their hometown pride rise up in them as they talked and pointed out different aspects of the mural.”

Even though she isn’t originally from Kingston, she said the mural and community made her proud to call Kingston home. Davis said she added a few personal touches to the mural to cement her love of Kingston.

“We are putting down roots here, so it felt good to connect with the community and the community connect with me,” she said. “I did add my own personal touches to the mural like the Crosspoint Camp Cross.”

She said she recently had a journey there through the “Walk of Emmaus” and wanted to add that “touch of serene beauty.” She noted that the writing in the sand is a shout out to her husband, Scott, because he helps her “make all her crazy shenanigans come to life.” She said he is supportive and talented, as well.
