On June 30, Kingston Officer Dakota Hanks was conversing with Officer Brady Sims and Brandon Marques when Sims mentioned that on his previous shift, he had encountered a female that was driving under the influence. Instead of arresting her, Sims drove the female to her house that was right down the street on Northwest Little Street.
When Sims dropped off the female, he noticed marijuana plants in plain view. According to the police report, when Sims asked about the plants, the female stated that, “her daughter had a medical card but was sleeping inside.”
After hearing the information, all three officers decided to patrol the area to ensure that the plants had been removed. When the officers arrived, there was a small marijuana plant in a blue bucket by the back door of the residence.
Sims knocked on the door of the residence and the female from the previous night, Gwedelen Cravatt, answered the door. Sims then asked Cravatt where her daughter was, to which the female seemed confused and said, “my nephew.” Sims responded, “No, your daughter. You said your daughter had a medical marijuana card.”
Cravatt then stated that was her nephew’s girlfriend, and she resides in Ravia. Sims asked Cravatt why the marijuana plant was still outside, and she said she did not know, she had been sleeping all day.
The officers gained entry into the home. The nephew, identified as Eric Hill, reportedly asked his aunt, “why the hell are they even here,” when she told him the cops were there.
When the officers asked Hill where his girlfriend who has the medical card was at, he stated she returned home and took all the plants with her. While speaking with Hill, the officers noted a water bong on the table next to the kitchen.
Sims and Hanks instructed Hill to call his girlfriend so they could verify that she had a medical marijuana card, and she texted the officers a picture of said card.
Sims spoke to Hill’s girlfriend, Brandi Love, and asked if she was a resident of Cravatt and Hill’s residence. Love said, “I stay there every once and a while.” Sims informed her that if she was not a resident of the house, her plants could not be there.
They also located a large glass bong, marijuana pipes, a glass jar filled with marijuana, marijuana vape pods, two baggies with buds, nine marijuana roaches, a scale and various other paraphernalia. The officers also confiscated a tattoo gun. Hill and Cravatt were both taken into custody and brought to the Marshall County Jail. Hill was charged with Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Paraphernalia, Obstruction and Possession of Tattoo Equipment without a license.
Cravatt was charged with Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Paraphernalia and Obstruction.
