King George takes over Doghouse

The Doghouse at Ole Red held a cover band on April 19. It was called King George, to pay tribute to country megastar, George Strait. As always, a ticket to a special eventattheDogHousecomes with a homemade BBQ dinner.

Many people enjoy watching cover bands of some of their favorite artists. It is typically done at a more intimate setting and doesn’t cost hundreds of dollars. One of the greatest parts of a performance at the Doghouse is the fact that it is in one of Indian Territories iconic Historical structures in Tishomingo. This made for the most appropriate venue for a man singing George Straight’s hits since he also is known as an iconic country singer.

King George is the moniker typically given to George Strait and, rightfully so, giving theamountofnumberone songs that he has so elegantly graced upon the world. The King George band has been performing George Straight songs in many venues across Texas and Oklahoma.

The main singer, Mitch Rhodes, is from Oak Cliff, Texas and has played music for many years. Rhodes has only performed George Straight songs since November of 2022 and said that he responded to a Facebook ad requesting auditions for a countrysingerwhocouldplay the guitar.

“I knew right away that this was right for me, and I didn’t really know that I would be performing all George Straight songs,” he said.

Toanchorhisperformance and great impersonation, when the band finished their final song and began to clear the stage, the crowd went ballistic to the point that an encore was the only solution to satisfy.

King George belted out a crowd favorite, Troubadour. One thing that stood out was the band’s dedication to authenticity.Manyfanswere fascinated by just how much the band reminded them of the real artist.
