OKLAHOMA CITY – Today, Joy Hofmeister, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, will submit a Declaration of Candidacy and officially file for the office of governor. Hofmeister, who shared yesterday that she was recently diagnosed with COVID, will file for office via an agent of her campaign as is allowed by the State Election Board of Oklahoma.
Hofmeister released the following statement:
“Like millions of our neighbors, I am guided by faith, family, and the commonsense Oklahoma values I’ve taught my four kids. But there doesn’t seem to be much common sense guiding our state right now. Instead of working together, our governor stirs up division, pitting neighbor against neighbor. He prizes politics over people and his own self-interest over the public good.
I am running for governor to rebuild what Kevin Stitt has destroyed: accountability and trust.
What I’m hearing from Oklahomans right now - traveling from county to county - tracks with a recent poll showing over half of Oklahoma voters believe our state is on the wrong track. Oklahomans are rightly upset that what matters most to them – quality neighborhood schools, the freedom to make healthcare decisions with a trusted doctor and the safety of their communities – has all been put at risk. I’m looking forward to continuing these conversations across the state and the opportunity to get Oklahoma back on track as governor.”
