A call to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office led to multiple arrests on September 29. Deputy Latasha Broadhead was dispatched to the 3000 block of Shelter Road to do a follow up call from the previous night. Deputy Kasey Cox received the original call on September 28 about a man approaching individuals with a gun. However, when he went to the residence, he was not able to make contact with anybody. Thus, Broadhead went out the following morning.

The deputy spoke with the manager of the trailer park where the incident was reported. The owner informed Broadhead that there were suspects – later identified as Lainey Martin and her boyfriend Anthony Duke – with a gun and causing havoc the previous night.

Broadhead attempted to make contact with the individuals who were being implicated in the incidents. Like Cox the previous night, she was not having much luck getting somebody to answer the door.

After multiple attempts to raise somebody in the house and successfully get them to open the door, Broadhead contacted the owner of the home. Once the homeowner answered her phone, she informed the deputy that the individuals in question did not have permission to be in the residence. Martin’s father was allowed to spend a few days there, but not the couple, and even the time was up for the father.

Broadhead, along with an OHP, and Lighthorse officer, attempted to get somebody to answer the door multiple times. Because there was a possibility the suspects were armed, Broadhead informed nearby residents to stay clear of the residence.

Broadhead said all it took was a mere flash of movement in the window for officers to pounce. “They [assisting officers] told me the blinds moved. Shortly after that they started screaming to someone to get on the ground,” Broadhead reported.

The deputy cuffed Martin to detain her, and the suspect became ‘mouthy’ toward Broadhead. The suspect was refusing to assist the deputy in her investigation. “Lainey was stating she was going to sue our office, and that I had no right to put her in cuffs or keep her there,” Broadhead noted in her police report.

Martin continued to deny taking a gun to the responding party’s house. She also said that nothing in the house was hers.

Once Broadhead contacted the owners of the trailer again, is when the story got interesting. The owner stated he allowed Martin and her father to stay there for a few days because he wanted to help Martin get clean. The time frame agreed upon was only five days. Unfortunately for Martin, time was up a week prior. The owner had instructed the suspects to leave his residence multiple times, with no luck.

While in the residence, Broadhead located a small silver revolver “stuffed in the left side of the seat and the arm of the chair wrapped in a towel.” The deputy also located a crossbow. Neither items came back as stolen.

Just when the couple should be laying low, because the owner wanted them out, they made themselves even more noticeable. A witness recounted the couple were aggressively approaching a neighbor and waving a gun around. The witness also stated he saw Martin strike the victim they were following.

Another neighbor was questioned by the deputy. He told her that the daunting duo went to his residence and waved around two different weapons; Martin had a small, chrome revolver, and Duke had a black semi-automatic pistol.

The neighbor then stated the couple left, but returned to attempt to acquire some ranch dressing. After the neighbor declined, he noticed items missing from his freezer.

Apparently, the couple went shopping in the neighbor’s freezer, because a short time later, Broadhead found a backpack containing some packaged food, and she asked the neighbor what food was taken. He replied the food was from Schwan’s, a home delivery food service. The items taken were a bag of teriyaki chicken, a bag of spicy chicken, a bowl of frozen stew, a bag of fish, jalapeño poppers, a bag of sausage and two pizzas.

Another affected neighbor realized she had missing items as well, that were found on in the suspect’s possession. A wagon, boat covers and boat carpets were taken.

Martin is facing two felonies, Receiving/Possession of Stolen Property, and Larceny from the House, and a misdemeanor of Obstructing and Officer.

Duke was apprehended on September 30, and brought to the Marshall County Jail. He was booked and charged with three felonies; Receiving/ Possession of Stolen Property, Larceny from the House and Possession of a Firearm After a Former Conviction of a Felony.

Duke also has priors from Johnston County. Shooting with Intent to Kill, a felony, and a misdemeanor of Transporting an Open Container – Beer. He also has two felonies from Tulsa County for Receiving/ Concealing Stolen Property.
