In the days leading up to Valentine’s Day, Hope for Marshall County Food Pantry delivered some extra surprises filled with love and kindness. Along with regular food box deliveries, Gwen and David Wilson of the HFMC Food Pantry handed out Valentine’s Day card boxes and packages to seniors and veterans on their monthly list. Gwen said she does it every year to make a difference.

“It makes a big difference because everyone deserves to know that they matter,” Gwen said.

One recipient, a Navy Veteran named Michael, stated that he had never received a Valentine’s day card before. with “This made my day,” he said with excitement.

With help from volunteers each year, HFMC is able to share the love with people who don’t feel loved on a regular basis.

“We delivered 35 food boxes that also had a surprise of goodies and cards,' Gwen said. 'They all have cards that say you are seen, you are heard, you are loved, and you matter.”

Each year, local kids volunteer to make Valentine’s Day card boxes, send cards, candy, and bears. This year, students from Jacey Carpenter’s preschool class at KingstonElementary, Kelsey Lawrence’s 3rd grade class at Madill Elementary, and from Jill’s DayCare sent in cards, as well.
