October is upon us, and so begins the season of ghosts, ghouls and giving. October also marks the beginning of the Annual Socktober Event. This event spends all month collecting socks for the Marshall County Foster Children, and residents of the Brookside Nursing Home, Family Care Center and Baptist Village.

The organization wants to shatter their total of 735 collected last year. They are asking residents to help them reach and exceed their goal of 1,000 pairs. Everything collected stays local.

The drop-off locations around town are Brookside, Sharpes, the Health Department, the Madill Police Department, Hobo Joes, KMAD, Dollar General, Amazing Grace, Corner Drug and Southbound Nutrition.

Collection boxes will stay out till October 31. For more information, please contact (580) 263-8808 or (580) 504-9204.

Atwood’s will be hosting two events on October 26 for residents to enter and enjoy. The first event will be at 9:00 a.m. at the store. It is a Pumpkin Carving Contest. Entrants can bring their own pumpkins, or purchase one from Atwood’s.

The second Atwood’s event is the Pet Costume Contest. It is at 2:00 p.m. at the store. All pets are encouraged to enter. There will be four prize winners, small, medium, large and extra large. Bring any pet; dog, cat, pig or horse, and enter.

The Powell Church of Christ is also hosing their Annual Pumpkin Carving and Hot Dog Dinner Saturday, October 26 at 5:00 p.m.
