The Doghouse at Ole Red in Tishomingo hosted ZZ Tex, a tribute band to the legendary ZZ Top, for the first time. The crowd was abuzz for the opportunity to experience a nostalgic rendition of the past. ZZ Tex delivered a high-energy performance that brought back memories of the class rock trio.
Cheap Sunglasses, Gimmie All Your Lovin’, Sharp DressedManandTubeSteak Boogie were some of the old favorites played, bringing back memories of the good old days. The band’s lineup included Freddy Z, the lead vocalist and guitarist, Kraig Parker on bass guitar and vocals and Sharon Simmons on drums, the newest member of the band.
Freddie Z said he has a passion for music that is evident in his performance. Portraying Billy Gibbons withZZTop,hehashonedhis craft and elevates his skills to new heights, showcasing his artistry and leaving audiences wanting more. He said passioncomesfromtheheart.
“Talent is a gift that comes from the inside of your heart and mind and drives me to be the best I can,” he said.
Parker portrays Dusty Hill of ZZ Top. He is a seasoned musician and songwriter with 30 years of touring experience and boasts a remarkablepassionformusic andanexpansivevocalrange, solidifying his position as a bass guitarist and songwriter in the industry. Parker said his passion for music was ignited when he received his grandmother’s guitar at age 11.
He quickly became adept at playing Elvis’s songs, which served as a catalyst for his development as a musician. At 16, he joined the band Fallout, and their debut album received substantial airplay from Q-102, aprominentstationinDallas. This marked the beginning of Parker’s successful music career.
Simmons, the latest addition to the group’s lineup, expressed her gratitude towards Parker for giving her a chance to prove herself as the new drummer. With a wealth of experience gained from her time playing in Graceland the band from 1990-2000,Simmonsbringsa fresh perspective and energy to the group’s sound.
She often has the privilege to play along side her sister and daughter who are also drummers. Simmons’ high energy approach to drumming makes her performances unforgettable.
ZZ Tex delivered an unforgettable performance at the always-lively Doghouse. Their energetic set had the crowd on their feet and dancing, and many guests said they can’t wait for the band to return soon.
